The International Monetary Fund, the European Union and the European Central Bank demand tougher reforms in the socials security system in view of September's assessment of progress prior to the allocation of the second installment of emergency loan. The Troika calls for new social security system to be put in force in 2015 instead of 2018, full pension after 40 years of work and cuts in pensions of widows under 50yo. In the meantime, the Employment Minister, A. Loverdos is holding talks with private sector trade unions to formulate the new labour relations framework as dictated in the memorandum agreed with the Troika.

    Assessment of Progress in Reforms

Employment Minister A. Loberdos, in an interview with private television channel ANT1 on Monday, said that the new social security system reduces to three the social security funds.

Furthermore, the Troika demands 40 years of work to receive full pension and 6% reduction of pension amount for each year, if one wants earlier retirement.

They also ask for reduction in pensions of civil servants' divorced and single daughters , abolition of pensions of widows under 50yo and under income criteria for widows under 65yo.

Mr. Loberdos underlined that the government would exhaust all efforts to avoid the above reforms , particularly cuts in pensions. Referring to evasion in social security contributions, he said that the sum mounts to 8 billion euros and he would release the names of debtors at the request of the Parliament.

He also announced special regulation for businesses that have problems in paying their contributions to social security funds.

The employment Minister said the TROIKA would assess progress in social security reforms prior to the release of the second installment of the emergency loan.

Finally, Mr. Loverdos invites social sectors for deliberations on May, 31 in order to formulate the new labour relations framework. In the meantime, talks on the social security system, to be tabled to the Parliament in the first third of June, continue.
