    The National Meteorological Service forecasts for today rain and local snowfall with north easterly moderate to strong winds that will turn to strong in the evening.

    The temperature in Athens will range from 2 to 7C and in Thessaloniki from &#8211;2 to 4C.

    [02] Europe pressing for peaceful solution

    In view of the critical Security Council meeting due to take place on Friday, European diplomacy is focusing its efforts in averting war against Iraq.

    During today's meeting between Prime Minister Costas Simitis and Foreign Minister George Papandreou, the Greek EU Presidency will examine the possibility of calling and extraordinary meeting of the 15 EU member states.

    Meanwhile, France and Germany are preparing to propose a joint peace plan with the boosting of the United Nations inspectors group and the dispatch of hundreds of thousands of United Nations soldiers in Iraq that will guarantee Iraq's disarmament.

    The issue was discussed yesterday between the German Chancellor Gerhard Shroeder and the Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stated that he would support the French-German initiative.

    The two leaders stressed that they agreed with China and France on the need for a diplomatic solution to the Iraqi crisis.

    At the same time, United Nations inspectors Hans Blix and Mohamed El Baradei, who left Baghdad yesterday, appeared restrainedly optimistic and made positive comments on the cooperation of the Iraqi authorities on the issue of Iraq's disarmament.

    However, from his side, American President George W. Bush stated that it had been made clear that Baghdad was not disarming itself.

    Meanwhile, France and Belgium left open the possibility to veto the American proposal submitted to NATO today to offer aid to Turkey in the case of war against

    [03] Damages caused all over Greece by bad weather

    The bad weather that prevailed during the last days caused serious damages to cultivations and infrastructures, while thunderstorms and snowfalls are expected in southwesterly coastal Greece and mountainous areas in the south respectively.

    Additionally, the Tripolis &#8211; Corinth national highway sunk causing severe problems to those using the newly constructed highway. Additionally, a lot of villages have been cut off in the prefecture of Arcadia.

    [04] More terrorists to be arrested

    According to information, the police authorities are focusing their efforts in locating the archive of the terrorist organization ELA, while the anti terror squad is collecting evidence on alleged members of the terrorist organizations May 1st and Revolutionary Nuclei.

    Meanwhile, in an interview with the Sunday newspaper &#8220;To Vima Tis Kyriakis&#8221; Public Order Minister Michalis Chrysohoides stated that the government's invariable position is to examine each aspect of the terrorism issue.
