    A cloudy day is forecast in most parts of the country with local showers in the west, centre and north, and in the eastern Aegean islands. Winds west-southwesterly, strong to gale force in the seas. Temperatures in Athens will range between 4C and 12C and in Thessaloniki between 0C to 10C.

    [02] Draftbill on incompatibility of exercising profession with parallel holding of a parliament seat voted down

    A competent parliament committee yesterday voted against a draftbill providing for the incompatibility of exercising a profession with the parallel holding of a seat in parliament. Government spokesman, Hristos Protopappas said that the draftbill will be brought to the plenum of the parliament where the main opposition ND party would indicate whether it respects institutions or not.

    [03] Crucial time for resolution of Cyprus issue

    Cyprus President, Glafkos Kleridis stressed the need for a resolution of the Cyprus political problem , maintaining that a viable and just solution could be achieved if the Turkish-Cypriot side showed political willingness.

    Turkish-Cypriot leader, Raulf Denktash described as a minefield the UN Secretary General peace plan, adding he could not believe in a peaceful coexistence of Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

    On his part, the leader of Turkey s ruling Justice and Development party, Tayip Erdogan described the Cyprus issue as a national issue which could not be limited to the level of personal views.

    [04] State hospital doctors 24-hour strike today

    Only emergency cases will be treated in state hospitals today due to a 24-hour strike of doctors and medical personnel demanding permanent status for colleagues working in the national health system on a contract basis.
