The Cyprus problem will dominate the national issues to be promoted during discussions with members of the US administration and the Congress by the delegates to the 26th congress of the Greek-American leadership, to be held in Washington from May 25 to 27.

Other issues to be raised will be Greco-Turkish relations, the Macedonian question, and the human rights and religious freedoms of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The congress will be attended by Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou, and the Mayors of the Turkish occupied municipalities of Famagusta and Lefkoniko, Alexis Galanos and Michalis Pilikos respectively.

In remarks ahead of the congress, President of the Coordinated Effort Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) Philip Christopher said that the congress is taking place once again during a crucial period for the Cyprus problem.

He added that many members of Congress and senators supported the Greek Cypriot side, and that the delegates would have to decide the way forward.

President of the Cypriot Federation Panicos Papanicolaou said the delegates would be hearing the views of representatives of the US administration concerning the Cyprus problem, focusing on the change of leadership in the Turkish Cypriot community.

He also said that many members of Congress and senators were expected to express support to the Greek Cypriot side, and give their views on various issues concerning the Greek-American community.
