Nicosia, May 24 (CNA) -- Portuguese Deputy Foreign Minister, in charge of
European Affairs and President of the European Council, Francisco Seixas Da
Costa has expressed the wish he will be able soon to welcome Cyprus as a
full member of the European Union (EU).
He reassured that by the end of the EU Portuguese presidency, all chapters
which are pending will open for negotiation.

Nicosia, May 24 (CNA) -- Ways in which Austria can help Cyprus in its
efforts to solve the Cyprus problem and enter the European Union were
examined here Wednesday during a meeting between the Defence Ministers of
Cyprus and Austria, Socrates Hasikos and Herbert Scheibner.
Speaking after the meeting, Hasikos said Scheibner, who is conducting talks
on the island, will also visit the Austrian contingent of the United
Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
