[03] PNL has not asked for and are not asking for the dismissal of Finance Minister Remes

Valeriu Stoica has said that his party was not asking Prime Minister Isarescu for the dismissal of Finance Minister Remes and were surprised at the reaction of the PM at the letter of President of the Party Quintus. However since Wednesday of this week Mr. Remes is no longer representing the National Liberal Party in the Cabinet and when and if the measures adopted by Mr. Remes will coincide with the Liberal Party programme his activity will be supported by the Liberal Party Cabinet ministers.

The visit to Romania of the team of technicians of the World Bank is not linked to the negociations of this country with the representatives of the International Monetary Fund who are in Bucharest in connection with the next instalment of the IMF loan to Romania in October.

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE Adrian Severin is in Vienna for the technical conference on the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Belarus. Mr. Rosapepe said he was interested by this issue as in the United States particular stress is laid on private property and on cultural heritage. He also said he was convinced the issue was difficult and he wanted detailed information on this process in Romania.

[08] Symposium at the Academy of Romania

The History and Archeology Division of the Academy of Romania organized a symposium on the theme 60 YEARS SINCE THE VIENNA DIKTAT. It was on 30 August 1940 that Romania was forced to give to Hungary more than 43,000 square kilometers of Northern Transylvania having a population of approximately 2.6 million inhabitants. In his presentation of what happened 60 years ago university profesor Doctor Ion Scurtu said that during that interval Romania was completely isolated and it was in that context that the ultimata of the Soviet Union regarding Basarabia and Northern Bukovina were enforced and so was the Vienna Diktat by which a population of 2,600, 000 people living on a surface of more than 43,000 square kilometers went to Horthy's Hungary. In the opinion of professor Scurtu the guilty party was the Romanian political class of that time that did not take action in a pragmatic manner in the foreign arena not even when it was clear that for a time both the UK and France promoted a policy of accepting Germany's occupation of Austria and Czechoslovakia. RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI also informed that profesor Mihai Retegan said that what happened 60 years ago was a Diktat by both the unfolding of events and by its consequences as alongside the occupation by Moscow of Basarabia and Northern Bukovina the enforcing of the Vienna Diktat was the division of the zone of Eastern Europe between Hitler's Germany and the Soviet Union.

The commemoration of 60 years since the VIENNA DIKTAT also occasioned the organization of memorial services and rallies in the martyr villages and towns of Ip,Trasnea, Zalau and Cluj Napoca, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.
