[01] POLITICS, ECONOMIC and SOCIAL NEWS[02] The Cabinet of Romania approved the creation of an institute for research into the national minorities issuesThe Cabinet of Romania approved the proposal of the office for the protection of national minorities to set up an institute for research of the national minorities. The institute will unfold its activity under the Government of Romania and money comes from the budget of this country.[03] The protocole of CDR 2000 was signed. The leaders of the five political parties that make up CDR 2000 respectively PNTCD, UFD, FER, ANCD and the Party of Moldoveni have signed the protocole of work of this political alliance. CDR 2000 will unfold its activity on the basis of its own platform, based on the programme of Euroatlantic integration of Romania. CDR 2000 will participate in the parliamentary elections of Romania on common lists and will promote only one candidate to the office of President of Romania, Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu.CDR 2000 is further open to receiving the dissidents from the National Liberal Party led by Finance Minister Decebal Traian Remes within its ranks and is ready to give members of the group places on the lists of CDR 2000, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.[04] Possible accord between PSDR and PDSRThe leadership of the Romanian Social Democratic Party estimates as possible the signing of an accord with a view to a political and electoral alliance with the Social Democracy Party of Romania ( the main opposition party of Romania ) and adds that this possibility may come as soon as possible. Leader of PSDR Alexandru Athanasiu quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI says that it is better to have only one social democratic force in the Romanian political arena and this force should have international recognition.[05] The Cabinet of Romania has approved all documents for work to be finalized at the Second Unit of the Cernavoda Atom-Power StationThe Cabinet of Romania adopted an ordinance on Thursday approving the continuation until finalization of the work for Unit Number Two of the Atom Power Station of Cernavoda. Channeling of funds has been established from the budget of this country.[06] Meeting of the representatives of the Central Trade Union Bloc ( BNS ) with the envoys of the International Monetary FundThe BNS unionists declared on Thursday after their meeting with the chief negociator of the IMF for Romania, Emanuel Zervoudakis, that the IMF delegation was interested by the evolution of salary expenses on branches of activity as well as by the correlation of salaries with labor productivity. Unionist leaders have also said that they were doubtful in as far as value of real salaries is concerned as presented in the official reports, quotes TV station ROMANIA ONE.[07] Ministry of National Defense of Romania has forwarded to the Foreign Ministry the second chapter of the national programme for NATO adherenceColonel Corneliu Dobritoiu who is the Head of the division of Euroatlantic integration and International Military Relations told media that his ministry has forwarded to the Foreign Ministry the second chapter of the national programme for NATO adherence which uses to the maximum the correlation between the objective and the financial resources.RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI mentions that the aim of the whole chapter is the better training of the Romanian army for coping with the demands of NATO integration. [08] Press conference on the theme DAYS OF THE JEWISH CULTURE IN ROMANIAA press conference on this theme was organized here at the press center of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION. This has opened the series of events which are devoted to the EUROPEAN DAYS OF JEWISH CULTURE and which, among others include four exhibitions and a symphony music concert of the National Radio Orchestra which is rebroadcast in real time by the European Broadcasting Union. All these events take place on the third and fourth of September.[09] Opening of the school year at High School ALEXANDRU VLAHUTA of BucharestOn 1 September the United States Ambassador to Romania, James Rosapepe, his wife Sheila Kast Rosapepe, Mehmet Fahim Tobur who is the Chairman and the CEO of the Turkish Romanian Bank, Traian Basescu, General Mayor of the city of Bucharest, a very numerous audience, all the students of the high school, the SOUND singing group, His Grace Teodosie Snagoveanu, vicar of the city of Bucharest and of Snagov, Headmistress of the highschool Mioara Savinuta and the teachers of the highschool opened the new school year. It is for the first time that a Romanian school with tuition in Romanian has a first grade with all subjects tought in German, as is the case of the ALEXANDRU VLAHUTA highschool. The sponsor of the school is TURKISH ROMANIAN BANK that supported the proper refurbishing of the building, the purchase of 20 brand new PCs, the remodelling of the school library and of the gymnasium. US Ambassador Rosapepe delivered an address saying among other things that the Romanian students are the most gifted and brightest of all students he knows and they should enjoy all the opportunities they can get: the general mayor of the city of Bucharest Traian Basescu who is the initiator of the action of sponsoring all the schools of the city by the richer companies and corporations said he had thousands of children of his own now, in all schools of the city of Bucharest while the CEO and President of the Turkish Romanian Bank, Mehmet Fahim Tobur recalled the fact that his bank was the only sponsor of the high school and the provider of quite a lot of school supplies for 10,000 students all over Romania.[10] CALENDARThe President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, is now at Timisoara where he attended the opening of the 2000 - 2001 school year.Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu participates in the debate on the theme PLACE AND ROLE OF CULTURE IN THE PROGRAMME OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE ROMANIAN SOCIETY organized by the National Foundation for Science and Arts of the Romanian Academy. Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu participates in the colloquim on the theme INFLATION - PROGNOSIS AND REALITY organized by the Department for communications of the Cabinet of Romania. State Minister, foreign minister Petre Roman has opened, alongside Roger Dehaybe, general administrator of the International Agency of Francophonie, the courses for young diplomats, organized by the Titulescu European foundation. At Chisinau, on behalf of President Emil Constantinescu, undersecretary of state with the Ministry of National Defense, Ion Tudoran Bogdan, awarded the medal COMMEMORATIVE CROSS OF WORLD WAR TWO for service to Romania during W W 2 by veterans that are citizens of the Republic of Moldova and were active in the war theater as part of the Romanian army. The delegation of the World Bank led by Khaled Sherif start talks with the representatives of the Romanian Cabinet for the second programme of reshaping the private sector, PSAL 2. Official opening of the debates of the Forum of Culture, the last stage of the programme of the Council of Europe ASSESSMENT OF THE NATIONAL CULTURAL POLICIES organized by the Ministry of Culture and the European Council with the support of the Department for Culture and Education of the Presidency of Romania, at the Cotroceni Palace. THE ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION by the REGIONAL STATIONS DEPARTMENT OF THE CORPORATION has taken under its patronage the general school of the commune of Zapodeni, county Vaslui. In the presence of the President Director General of the Corporation important donations were made during the first school day. High School ALEXANDRU VLAHUTA and its sponsor BTR - Turkish Romanian Bank alongside the Ambassador of the United States to Romania and mrs. Sheila Rosapepe as well as the General Mayor of the city of Bucharest, Traian Basescu,opened together the new school year in a festive atmosphere. ( More in the following section ).
