[02] The answer of Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu to the letter of President of PNL Mircea Ionescu Quintus

The Prime Minister of Romania answered the letter sent him by the leader of the National Liberal Party of Romania, Mircea Ionescu Quintus, a letter asking him to dissociate himself from the political actions of Decebal Traian Remes, former member until recently of the National Liberal Party who alongside other important members of the senior wing of PNL decided to leave that party, and state again his independent position. The PM wrote in his letter that he regretted the turmoil inside PNL which is of a pure political nature and about which he is not able to do anything. The PM reminds the leader of PNL that two months ago he was asked by the very person and persons that wrote the second letter to take action and insist that Decebal Traian Remes remain in the Cabinet as Finance Minister backed by the National Liberal Party. Mr. Remes alreday tedered his resignation by that time, a resignation which was not accepted by the PM. Once again Mr. Isarescu writes in the letter he does not interfere in the domestic affairs of a political party or another and he remains an independent Cabinet Prime Minister as this is the only way in which he feels he can do his job. Likewise his candidacy to the office of President of Romania is along the same line of an independent political personality.

[03] Session of the Permanent Bureau of the National Liberal Party

The Central Permanent Bureau of the National Liberal Party met in session and decided, among others, that the answer of the Prime Minister of the Cabinet of Romania was not the answer to the letter which the leader of the party, Ionescu Quintus, sent him. Mr. Quintus spesifically asked the Prime Minister to dissociate himself of the actions of Finance Minister Remes.

    [04] International Seminar

Stress is laid on cutting down red tape in all commercial activities, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

[05] Statement of the commercial delegate of Austria to Bucharest

The economy of Romania shows the first signs of recovery following foreign investment and numerous projects of healing and bettering infrastructure said in Vienna the Austrian commercial delegate to Bucharest, Franz Bachleitner. He added numerous opportunities were wasted after the 1989 Revolution but that the programme of the Bucharest Cabinet for European integration by the year 2004 is directed towards making up for the lost time. The Austrian official also said that the European Union which invested this year alone more than 620 million USD will further monitor the implementation of the Cabinet programme. Mr. Bachleitner also added that it seemed to him that a more realistic approach to the issue would read that Romania adheres to the structures of the European Union after 2010.

[06] Increase of export in the first seven months of the year

A report of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce reads that in the first seven months of this year export reached money wise a figure equal to almost six billion USD which means an increase of 26 per cent as against the same period last year. First in as far as exports are concerned are products of the leather and textile industries.
