[01] SOME $15 MILLION BY WORLD BANK FOR TRANSMISSION-DISTRIBUTION FOR 1997.TIRANA, JAN 6 (ATA)- By N. Mano,The World Bank has contributed some 30 million dollars for the implementation of the transmission-distribution project for 1996-2001 in Albania. For 1997 the project will allocate some 15 million dollars for buying equipment for the installation of the electric meters. This installation has already been practiced in several small districts of Albania. kled/lm/e Albanian Telegraphic Agency[02] SEA PORT OF DURRES WORKING IN FULL CAPACITYDURRES, JAN 6 (ATA) - By S Gjordeni: The new year found the sea port of Durres, 45 km from Tirana, working at full capacity.The director of the port, Zamir Ramadani, told ATA that 12 ships are being handled. The ships have brought various food articles, construction materials, nitrate for agriculture, etc. In 1996 the Durres seaport had a record volume of work, handling 1 million physical ton of various imported and exported commodities, the highest figure reached since 1991, or 20 per cent more than in 1995. kled/xh/E Albanian Telegraphic Agency[03] INVESTMENT FOR HOMELESS IN KORCAKORCA, JAN 6 (ATA)- By B. Fejzullai, During 1996 in the cities of Korca, Pogradec, Bilisht and Erseke, the state invested over 195 million leks for building new flats or buying them for the homeless."Some 309 flats were provided for the homeless in the four cities," the head of the regional department of the National Housing Enterprise in Korca, Piro Ligori, told ATA. Some 137 flats were distributed for the homeless in Korca, 40 flats in Pogradec, 92 in Erseka and Leskovik and 40 in Bilisht. Most of the flats are new and only 30 per cent have been bought by private owners and given to the homeless.a.ke/kled/lm/e Albanian Telegraphic Agency[04] DIVINE MASS ON 115TH ANNIVERSARY OF FAN NOLI'S BIRTHDURRES, JAN 6 (ATA)- By S. Gjordeni, The National Association "Fan Noli" on Sunday held a divine mass in the orthodox church of Durres on the 115th anniversary of the birth of Fan Noli, great statesman, democrat and distinguished figure of the Albanian letters.The mass was said by Fa0ther Petro Thanasi, at the presence of the association members, believers and local government leaders. The head of the associations's branch for Durres, Skender Thana, spoke of the figure and life of this patriot who ardently defended the Albanian national cause. Fan Noli was founder of the Albanian Orthodox Autocephalous Church. He fought throughout his life, also in exile, to nourish among the believers the feeling of love for the Homeland, patriotism and tolerance among the three faiths in Albania. s/sh/eva/lm/E Albanian Telegraphic Agency[05] ROUND TABLE TALKS ON PRESCHOOL EDUCATIONTIRANA, JAN 6 (ATA)- By P.Shuteriqi, "Round tables" were held recently on preschool education in the cities of Shkoder and Gjirokaster.The activities were organised by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MES) in cooperation with UNICEF and "The project on the Development of Education in Albania", of the Soros foundation. The participants were familiarised with new programmes "Regio -Emilia", "Step by Step", "Montesor" and others, implemented in Albania, alongside the national programme, in the preschool education. "In these talks emphasis was laid on the training and qualification of teachers working in kindergartens, the role played by the universities in Shkoder, Gjirokaster, Elbasan and other cities from which graduate teachers for preschool cycle," the MES inspector, Pranvera Kamani, says. eva/lm/e Albanian Telegraphic Agency[06] BULQIZE: 122 000 DOLLARS ON TWO PROJECTSBULQIZE, JAN 6 (ATA) By H. Ruspi: The Albanian Development Fund has accorded 122 000 dollars to apply two projects, which make possible the connection by lighted sidewalks of the old city of Bulqiza (northern Albania) with the new one.The road Dragu-Fushe Bulqize will be also rehabilitated with this fund. The investment for the main road of the town (actually without sidewalks) is very important, because this road has often been the cause of many accidents. /s.sh/eva/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[07] ALBANIAN GOVERNMENT CONVENESTIRANA, JAN 6 (ATA) - The Council of Ministers, under the direction of Premier Aleksander Meksi, took a series of decisions in its first meeting of this year.They took decision "On the function of qualifying and training courses near universities". The decision defines the procedures how these courses function. A project decree approved in today's meeting protects the consumer from the speculative increase of prices on the eve of official holidays. Based on the law 7491, "On the main constitutional provisions", was approved the draft-decree "On the levy about the small business". It was approved on principle the drafting of the project for the actual level of evaluation of the pollution near the region of river Fan from the activity of the industry of cooper and the measures to be taken for its rehabilitation. By a special decision, since January 31 1997, the diplomatic and service passports of the old type, become invalid. /eva/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[08] SEVERAL PEOPLE ARRESTED BY POLICE COMMISSARIAT OF FIERI DISTRICTTIRANA, JAN 6 (ATA) - The Police Commissariat of the Fieri district have arrested Elidon Xhebro, inhabitant in Vlora accused of killing by fire arms the citizen Albert Tahirllari from Patos.Xhebro was declared wanted person 2 years ago. The spokesman of the Interior Ministry reported that the police forces of this commissariat have realized recently a series of other actions. They have arrested the citizens Arben Isufi, Florian Kastrati and Bledar Kastrati, all accused of creating conditions to exercise prostitution for profits. While Josif Shanko and Perparim Kajolli were arrested while killing by a machine gun of the type "Kallashnikov" in one of the quarters of the Fieri district.
