[04] INDISPENSABLE PROFILING OF GENERAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS

TIRANA, JAN 5 (ATA) - By P Shuteriqi: In the present conditions, the profiling of the general secondary education has become an indispensability.

"According to a poll made, it comes out that 50 per cent of the pupils in the secondary schools are more interested in social sciences, whereas 48 per cent in natural sciences," a specialist in the Institute of Pedagogical Studies, Sotir Rrapo said. "Each of these groupings demands that more classes be held in their preferred subjects, in order to gain more knowledge."

The same poll made by the secondary education department in the Albanian Ministry of Education and Sports showed that 71 per cent the teachers consider the number of classes for their subjects as enough and only 29 per cent demand their increase.

The director Neritan Babamusta admits that also interviewed in the poll with 500 senior students and 300 teachers of these schools in 7 districts of Albania were juniors of 3 Tirana universities, who had competed for university, 40 per cent in the first grouping and the rest in the second one.

With regard to the two stages of the specialisation, Babamusta stressed that the basic subjects should be taught in the first and second grades of the secondary schools, but along with them 2-3 classes should be held for non-compulsory subjects. In the second stage, possibilities will be created for the pupils who prefer classical humanitarian profile, those for technical-scientific or social subjects, and fpr the pupils who like economy and business. ssh/kled/xh/sh/
