[01] "ENEMY OF PEOPLE" CELEBRATES 20-TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS ARRESTTIRANA, NOV 8 (ATA) By I. Manka:The citizens of Lushnja (Middle Albania) still remember the day when a 14-year old boy was arrested as "enemy of people". Twenty years ago, at the school where the boy Artur Kice attended the lessons, the car of Lushnja former Sigurimi arrived. Sigurimi officials took him from school and sent to the dark cells of the interior branch of the city. For six months he was squatted into loneliness and coldness, far from games and dreams. The Attorney General requested for Kice 6 months in jail, which are considered as unique case in the communist East. They imprisoned and declared him "enemy of people", claiming that he had written tracts against the state. Artur Kice, now 34 years old, assistant judge in Lushnja Court, commemorated among friends the 20-th anniversary of his arrest from dictatorship. /s.sh/jz/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[02] PRIME MINISTER MEKSI REPRESENTS ALBANIA IN THE HEADS OF STATE MEETING IN GRATZTIRANA, NOV. 9 (ATA) - Prime Minister Aleksander Meksi yesterday took part in the summit of the Central Europe Initiative in Gratz of Austria with the participation of the CEI heads of states.The delegations were received by the mayor of Gratz, Alfred Stingl. Austrian Federal chancellor Vranitzky greeted in the ceremony on the occasion. The meeting approved unanimously Moldova as a full member of CEI, and some amendments to the basic principles of the CEI. Meksi spoke of the consolidation of the cooperation of the CEI with the European Union. In this regard, said Meksi, CEI members which are also EU members, have an important role. Mr Meksi also spoke about the establishment of regular contacts in the Commission of the European Union. After the meeting, Meksi had a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts present in the meeting. ssh/eva/xh/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[03] ALBANIAN KAOLIN IS EXPORTED TO ITALYSHKODER, NOV 9 (ATA) By Myfit Malja: The mineral nonmetal enterprise in Vig, Shkodra district continues its activity in extracting and exporting kaolin to Modena, Italy.This local state enterprise made a contract two years ago with the Italian company from Modena "Emil ceramica." The company has brought the necessary equipment for extracting kaolin reserves, which is a product used in the industry of ceramics. The enterprise has exported so far some 25 000 ton of kaolin which is realised by private vehicles. The reserves of kaolin in Vigu region will be exploited for more than 20 years. /a.ke/kei/mt/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[04] PRESS REVIEWTIRANA, NOV. 9 (ATA) - The Democratic Party defends the independence of the trade unions, writes Rilindja Demokratike today under the headline "Acts of Hajdari have no relation with the party."The paper entitles its editorial "The dissolved Socialist Party" underlining that the institution that represents the Socialist party is in decay. The paper also carries a statement of the DPA spokesman under the title "Hajdari's act, unacceptable for DP." The paper also has an article entitled "The socialists hide their loss." "The Albanian Government should educate its nationals for the use of money," writes Zeri i Popullit under the headline "Opinions of the World Bank about Albanian money-lending." Amnesty International again about "The Nano question," writes the newspaper. Newspaper Republika entitles one of its editorial "RP prepares a detailed strategy of governing." "SP gathers signatures for the discharge of Nano," writes the paper underlining that NANO's opponents and the present Sp presidencies want signatures from the grass-root to propose their discharge. In the feature "Leafing through the archives materials" Lajmi i Dites carries an article "Nationalism and Communism." "Peaceful abortive attempts of Hajdari for the post of Xheka," writes Albania. A violent attack on the UITUA seat is expected, writes this paper. Under the headline "Socialists in search of the guilty," the paper carries the article "A discharge of Fatos Nano underway." The newspaper Rilindja makes coverage of the news conference of the president of Kosova, Ibrahim Rugova, in an article entitled "Victory of the Kosova guests in the U.S." "After Azem Hajdari stands the President," writes Dita Informacion under the headline "Socialists comment the latest events in the trade unions," whereas Bashkimi entitles one of editorials "The week of deaths and survivals." Regarding the conflict of the Trade Unions, the court holds two opposite stands in a day, writes Koha Jone." At first Hajdari wins, then it is Xheka's turn to win, writes the paper. It also has a declaration of Hajdari under the title "I am waiting to have a meeting with Berisha." "Chaos in the UITUA: judiciary changes its mind in a day," writes Gazeta Shqiptare. The dollar started to devaluate precisely when Dardania bank began to pay off the debt of Sejdia, writes this paper under the title "Sejdia debt devaluates the dollar." kled/xh/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[05] TIRANA COURT BLOCKS AND UNBLOCKS THE SEAL AND THE BANKING ACCOUNT OF UITUATIRANA, NOV. 9 (ATA) - After an indictment of the democrat deputy Azem Hajdari, the Tirana Court decided Friday a temporary blocking of the seal and the banking account of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Albania and after a complaint of the UITUA president Valer Xheka, the court revoked its previous decisions Friday.The judge Gjergj Pojani changed the decision by unblocking the seal and the banking account of this institution. In his indictment, Hajdari, who claims to be UITUA president after an "extraordinary" conference held in Durres in which only four UITUA members were present, has demanded from the judge the legitimacy of this conference. Also another indictment which reached the Tirana Court by the Union of the Independent Trade Unions of Albania represented by its president Valer Xheka asked that by a decision of the court Hajdari and his men be not allowed to use the name of UITUA for their trade union grouping. Xheka and other members of UITUA have not recognized Hajdari as President of the UITUA and considered the conference in Durres "as organized by individuals without mandates." kei/xh/k Albanian Telegraphic Agency[06] AZEM HAJDARI HAS NEVER BEEN A TRADE UNION MEMBER - KalajaTIRANA, NOV 9 (ATA) - Azem Hajdari has never been a trade union member, declared for Albania paper on Sunday, the President of the Albanian Miners Trade Unions, Gezim Kalaja."With regard to Hajdari's statement to support the miners trade union of Gezim Kalaja, this can not be said by Hajdari, because Kalaja supports only the miners trade union and nobody else", says Kalaja, regarding the fact that Hajdari has declared a day after the "extraordinary" conference held in Durres that "I have the support of the miners trade union". "We would like to unite all the Albanian trade unionist movement to defend the interests of the Albanian workers", told Albania paper Gezim Kalaja, regarding trade unionist movement. Azem Hajdari, DP Deputy in the Albanian Parliament and chairman of the parliamentary commission of order and National Information Service (SHIK), claims to be the President of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Albania (UITUA) after an "extraordinary" conference held in Durres on November 5 in which only four members with the UITUA mandate were present there. President Valer Xheka and other members of UITUA have not recognized Hajdari as President of the UITUA and considered the conference in Durres "as organized by individuals without mandates." /kled/mt/E Albanian Telegraphic Agency[07] AZEM HAJDARI AND HIS SUPPORTERS FAIL TO HOLD MEETINGTIRANA, NOV 9 (ATA)- Deputy Azem Hajdari and the group of unionists supporting him failed to hold the UITUA National Council Meeting because they had no mandate.The UITUA indictment against Hajdari filed to the Tirana court yesterday says: "We are not against people's efforts to organise associations or trade unions and we consider this an expression of democracy and freedom established with so many sacrifices. But on the other hand we favour a democracy based on laws". Valer Xheka, the UITUA current president, told ATA yesterday that: "I have always supported the freedom of thought but in the case of Hajdari we do not have to do with this kind of freedom but with a violation of the most elementary rights of our Trade Union, which has been cerated om the will of the free people whose interests are defended by the trade union. On the same day judge Pojani ordered that UITUA's running account and seal be cleared.jz/lm/Z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[08] NEW YORK TIMES HIGHLIGHTS PORTRAIT OF ALBANIAN PAINTERELBASAN, NOV 9 (ATA) By P. Zekthi, American newspaper New York Times, in one of its September issues, devotes a special place to the portrait of Ylli Haruni, talented painter of Elbasan, Albania, who is actually immigrant in the U.S.Discovered by the article's author in "Broadway and 47 street" amongst 200 other painters, the 41-year-old Haruni is presented as an originality of the art of colours. The author describes Haruni as an integral part of the New York city, together with other outstanding foreign artists and the people living there. Haruni has worked for some 10 years as a scenographer of the "Skampa" theater in Elbasan, meriting at the same time several various prizes in the national painting exhibitions. In his career has has opened two personal exhibitions which have been vary much valued by the critic. The talent of this painter has also been extolled in Greece, where he immigrated in '91 and later in America, where he lives with his family. The author of the article is asking the drafting of a special status for foreign people like Haruni "who are carriers of incontestable universal values". s.s/kei/lm/Z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[09] POLISH PREMIER AND FINANCE MINISTER ARRIVES IN TIRANATIRANA, NOV 9 (ATA)-By S. Sharrexhi, Polish Deputy Premier and Finance Minister, Prof. Grzegorz W. Kolodko, arrived in Tirana this afternoon for an official three day visit.Present to receive him at the Rinas Airport were the Finance Minister, Ridvan Bode, and other officials of this ministry. Besides the meeting with his counterpart, Bode, prof. Kolodko plans special meetings with senior officials of the Albanian state, President of the Republic Sali Berisha, Premier Aleksander Meksi and deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Tritan Shehu. During his stay in Albania the Polish guest will visit the "Gdansk" shipyard in Durres, the Tirana University and historical spots. jz/lm/Z/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[10] SP COLLECTS SIGNATURES TO DISCHARGE CHAIRMAN NANOTIRANA, NOV 9 (ATA)- Members of the Socialist Party have started to prepare petitions for discharging the SP chairman, Fatos Nano, (actually in prison on charges of corruption and falsification of official documents) and the current socialist presidency, newspaper Republika reports today.The petitions (which blame Nano for the socialists' defeat in the October 20 local elections) will be submitted for voting to the SP Steering Committee at a forewarned meeting on December 5, 1996.
