    TIRANA, NOV 10 (ATA)- By S. Sharrexhi, On the occasion of November 9, the day of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the FR of Germany in Tirana, in cooperation with the Albania-Germany Friendship Association, held an activity at its headquarters.

    The embassy's cultural attache, Ms. Julia Gross, familiarised the participants, members and sympathizers of the Albania-Germany Friendship Association, with the importance of this remarkable event in the history of the German people and nation.

    The chairman of the association, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Zihni Haskaj, also greeted the participants, stressing the importance of this day and its repercussion in Albania. jz.lm/k

    [02] 23 MILLION LIRA FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE PRISON OF SHENKOLL

    LEZHA, NOV. 10 (ATA) - By Z Pergega: Two projects for the reconstruction of the prison of Shen Koll, Lezha, Northwestern Albania, were aplied after a total of 23 million lira was offered by an Italian Catholic mission operating in Lezha, in cooperation with the Italian community "San Egidio."

    The first project consisted of the reconstruction of the medical clinic of the jail, the hydro-sanitary connections which were furnished with the necessary material bases. Soon, the necessary medical equipment will be also brought for the clinic.

    The second project was the creation of a garden of 5 hectares which is administered by the prison. The prisoners have already planted vegetables in it.

    Another project is also envisaged and it completes the reconstruction of the prison with a fund of 800 thousand ECU by the European Union. The investment to this purpose is expected by the end of the current month. ssh/kei/xh/k

    [03] ALBANIAN PREMIER TAKES THE FLOOR IN THE CEI SUMMIT

    TIRANA, NOV. 9 (ATA) - The second day of the Gratz summit of the Central Europe Initiative (CEI) in Gratz of Austria, continued with speeches by the leaders of the delegations, among whom Albanian Prime Minister, Aleksander Meksi, Premier's spokesman reports.

    Meksi discussed after Federal Chancellor Vranitzki. In his address Meksi said that Albania supports the CEI activity whose aims is to intensify and develop closer relations with the European Union with the idea of cooperating with EU in activities of regional and interstate character, especially the programs for the development of the infrastructure.

    "We (Albania) support the idea that our countries, by respecting the OSCE principles, should contribute to the security and stability of the region through cooperation with OSBE in the fields of common interest," said Meksi.

    He also voiced the concern over the situation in Kosova.

    "I would like to attract your attention for the grave situation in Kosova, which all the world considers as a serious threat to peace and stability in the Balkan region and elsewhere," said Meksi.

    He pointed out the efforts of Albania to encourage the beginning of direct negotiations between Belgrade authorities and Albanian leaders of Kosova on the coming status of Kosova.

    "We hold that the improvement of the situation of the Albanian population wherever it lives in the Balkans, including the CEI member countries, will play an important role for the stability of these countries themselves and for the stability in the region," said Meksi.

    He considered as a priority the development of the projects of the infrastructure of transport within the region.

    Then, leaders of the delegations of Italy, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine spoke in the meeting.

    The heads of governments of the CEI member countries prepared a final document on the questions treated in the summit, which was made public to reporters in a joint news conference. ssh/kei/xh/k

    [04] ALBANIAN PRIME MINISTER MEETS HIS COUNTERPARTS IN THE GRATZ SUMMIT

    TIRANA, NOV. 9 (ATA) - During the summit in Gratz of Austria, Albanian Prime Minister Aleksander Meksi had a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts present in the summit, the spokesman of the Premier reports.

    In the meeting with Austrian Chancellor, Vranitzky, the stress was laid on the increase of the presence of Austrian investors in Albania and the development of joint projects.

    Informing of the economic situation in Albania, Meksi mentioned the main macro-economic indices and the determination of Albania to continue and promote the initiated reforms. Meksi focused mainly on the programs for the development of the infrastructure.

    With regard to the issue of Kosova, Meksi and Vranitzky shared the same opinion about the critical situation there and the necessity of a solution to the question.

    Meksi also met with the Italian Prime Minister, Romano Prodi. The two premiers agreed on the creation of a bilateral commission to foresee the possibilities of cooperation in all the fields between Albania and Italy.

    "We, said Prodi, will develop the cooperation with Albania in a new, higher level as compared with other countries."

    Meksi also raised the issue of the free movement of people, the support and legalization of Albanian emigrants and agreements for seasonal employment.

    Prodi expressed the good will of the Italian Government to help in this direction and stressed that they would solve together all the questions that may rise through permanent contacts to be established by the commissions.

    In the two meetings, premier Meksi asked and found support from Austria and Italy for a promotion of the relations of Albania and the European Union.

    Meksi also met with the Hungarian Premier Gyula Horn. They exchanged experiences of the reforms between the two countries.

    In the meeting with the Macedonian Premier, Crvenkovski, Meksi asked the improvement of the situation of the Albanians there, their education, etc, stressing that all these are in the interest of the stability of Macedonia itself. They also treated questions related to joint projects financed by various international structures.

    In the meeting with Premier of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Muratovic, issues connected with the reconstruction of the zones ruined by the war in Bosnia- Herzegovina were discussed. ssh/kei/xh/k

    TIRANA, NOV. 10 (ATA) - Rilindja Demokratike writes that "CEI meeting closed with the appeal for more help for Bosnia and Croatia," regarding the CEI summit held in Gratz of Austria, in which Albanian Prime Minister Aleksander Meksi took part. The paper also writes that "The deep loss of SP cannot involve Albanian policy." Among economic topics in this paper is the article entitled "Investments in small enterprises - more lines for production of bread and spirits."

    Zeri i Popullit writes "Relations of UITUA with DP segments denounced." The paper reports of the analysis being made in SP councils in the districts about the deep loss of SP in the October 20 local polls.

    Republika writes: "What clients do not know about the 'kingdom of money-lending.'" The paper writes "The Trade Union will not be an orphan any more," citing the words of democrat deputy Azem Hajdari, who claims that he is elected according to rules as president of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Albania.

    Newspaper Albania carries an interview with the president of one of the most powerful Albanian firms, Kamberi, entitled "We profitable investment of all the money we take from people in form of credits." Regarding a claim of Hajdari to take the post of the UITUA president, the paper writes: "Second attempt of DP deputy to take the seat of trade union chief fails." In the cultural field, the paper writes: "Kadare, a writer, above all."

    Koha Jone writes that "Police start to clear up investigation on the blast in Prel Martini's home. Three people from Kruja are isolated by police regarding an explosion caused by unidentified people in the building in which Chairman of the Appeals Court lived. The paper also carries an article entitled "IMF on money-lending in Albania."

    Dita Informacion reprints an open letter of the reporter of this paper Apollon Bace addressed to president Sali Berisha, under the title: "The question of Albanian money-lending to firms should be solved."

    Gazeta Shqiptare writes on the conflict in the Independent trade unions because of deputy Hajdari's claim for the post of the UITUA president. The paper also has a special article entitled "The capital, one night with the inhabitants of darkness." kei/xh/k
