[01] RESIGNATION OF SAHIN - SEZGIN, DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER: ''RESIGNATION OF SAHIN IS AN INTERNAL PROBLEM OF THE PARTY''

Responding to the questions of reporters about the resignation Sezgin said Democratic Turkey Party (DTP) did not demand anything from Sahin.''

Sezgin said Sahin failed to form a tie with the other deputies and added that Sahin had to resign earlier.

Answering another question Sezgin said DTP will enter the elections without making alliance with another party adding that party administrators and provincial chairmen are of the same opinion.

Refaiddin Sahin resigned from the cabinet and the Democratic Turkey Party (DTP), in response to the accusations that he failed to serve party interests.

Sahin issued a written statement concerning the reasons of his resignation after the two-month crisis between himself and the DTP Party.

Pointing out that he has begun his political career with the aim of ''clean policy and clean administration,'' Sahin stressed that he was brought to the point of being expelled from his party with unfair accusations.

Sahin emphasized that the Emlak Bank and the State Mass Housing Administration which are connected to the structure of his state ministry, were damaged by such accusations.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz has accepted the resignation of Sahin.

[02] ATTACK ON SECURITY DEPARTMENT BUILDING - IBRAHIM AYHAN OZGUL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTACK

Struggle Against Terrorism Department officials said Ozgul earlier participated in attacks on military posts in Gaziosmanpasa Kucukkoy Gendarme and Istanbul Security Department Buildings.

Officials said the ones who know the place of Ozgul should inform police officials.

[03] SENIOR STATE OFFICIALS IN SOUTHEASTERN DIYARBAKIR PROVINCE - PRESIDENT DEMIREL: ''ALL CHILDREN THROUGHOUT TURKEY WILL BE EDUCATED, THAT IS EDUCATION MOBILIZATION''

Addressing the opening ceremonies of a high school and primary school Demirel said ''we want every region of Turkey to be developed in the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the modern Republic of Turkey.''

Demirel said ''if we preserve democratic and secular republic and inseparable integrity of the country, Turkey will gain more'' and pointed out that a development mobilization has started in the Southeast and that this included many fields extending from education to health.

Meanwhile, Hikmet Cetin, Parliament Speaker said there are still nine million people in Turkey who do not know to read and to write despite all efforts.

Mentioning about the issuing of the law related with the eight years compulsory education, Cetin said the number of students in the classes should be reduced. Cetin also called on businessmen to construct more schools in southeastern Diyarbakir province.

Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz in his part said the government expended efforts for the children in Turkey to get education and added that 97 trillion lira were spent this year for the construction of schools.

Yilmaz pointed out that there are still 400 schools which are closed in Diyarbakir province adding that there was not education in 322 of these schools due to security needs.

Yilmaz also said a total of 10 billion US dollars will be spent for the education reform till the year 2000.

[04] DEAD BODY OF CHINESE ENGINEER, WHO DIED IN A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT, STILL WAITS FOR A RELATIVE

Officials said no reply came from the concerned institutions despite all efforts.

Yalcin Durgun, head doctor of Germencik State Hospital, said fax messages were sent to consulates to reach the family of Xinguan, who was learned to be working for Mineral Research and Exploration Institude (MTA).

Durgun said they will bury Xinguan in Germencik after waiting for some time.

Wen Xinguan had died in a traffic accident which happened on Alangullu Bridge on Sept 6, 1998. Three other people were also wounded during the incident.

[05] JAPANESE TOURIST AGENCIES IN ANKARA - GURDAL, MINISTER OF TOURISM, RECEIVES JATA CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS

Gurdal received Isao Matsuhashi, Chairman of Japanese Association of Travel Agencies (JATA) and the members in Turkish Japanese Foundation Culture Center.

Addressing the meeting Gurdal stressed that Turkey had the characteristics of a peninsula adding that Turkey has been the cradle for religions and civilizations.

Noting that the number of tourists coming to Turkey was 10 ten million, Gurdal briefed the owners of Japanese tourist agencies about the bed capacity in Turkey.

Isao Matsuhashi, Chairman of JATA, said nearly 83,000 Japanese tourists coming to Turkey did not satisfy them also adding that they were planning to make mutual agreements to increase this number.

Stressing that Turkey was one of the countries which Japanese tourists want to visit, Matsuhashi said ''Turkey has every facility with its history, natural and environment.''

JATA members will proceed to Aegean Izmir province on Sunday evening.

[06] EXPORTS OF PISTACHIOS FROM SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA REGION REDUCES 71.1 PERCENT

The region supplies 93 percent of the total production in Turkey and realizes almost the total exports.

The officials from the Southeastern Anatolia Dried Fruits and Products Exporters' Union said that they exported 1 million 792 thousand US dollars of pistachios to Syria, Italy, Romania, the US, Germany and France in the January-August 1998 period but this amount meant a 71.7 percent decrease compared to same period in 1997.

Despite the decrease in exports, the domestic market prices increased more over than the inflation ratio.

[07] PRIME MINISTER YILMAZ'S VISIT TO ISRAEL

In the last publication of Turkistan newspaper statements of Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nethanyahu took place.

The news report said Prime Minister Yilmaz recalled that Turkey's relations with Israel did not have any objectives aiming at other countries. Responding to a journalist who asked about Syria's reactions to the visit, Yilmaz said ''it is not important for me what Israel said. Everybody knows the hostile attitude of Syria. We want regional stability and security.''

Turkistan newspaper also mentioned about the statements of Nethanyahu. Israeli Prime Minister identifying the aim of the visit said ''to resemble Israel to Turkey which blossomed with the example of Ataturk.''

Nethanyahu also recalled that Jews were oppressed during World War II and that it was only Turkey which embraced them at that time.

[08] AFTERSHOCK MEASURING 3.3 ON RICHTER SCALE AGAIN SHAKES SOUTHERN ADANA PROVINCE

Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory and Quake Research Institude officials said the aftershock, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale shook the region at 10:39 a.m.

Thus the number of tremors shaking the region since the first quake on June 27, increased to 122. The first quake which shook Adana on June 27 measured 6.3 on the Richter Scale.

[09] ISSUES OF SECURITIES - ISSUES INCREASE 37 PERCENT IN FIRST HALF

The SPK data shows that the exports of securitis, which was 115 trillion 796 billion Turkish Liras (TL) in June 1997, dropped 33 percent to 77 trillion 663 billion TL in June 1998.

The exports of stocks, which was 107 trillion 796 billion TL in June 1997, declined 34 percent to 71 trillion 453 billion TL in June 1998.

The security investment fund participation certificates, which was 8 trillion TL last year, decreased to 6 trillion 150 billion TL this year.

Despite the decreases in June 1998, the issues of securities in the first half of 1998 increased 37 percent to 340 trillion 5 billion TL compared to same period in 1997.

In the first half of 1997, the total issues of securities was 248 trillion 853 billion TL.

The exports of stocks, which was 222 trillion 768 billion TL in the same period in 1997, increased by 42 percent and reached 315 trillion 345 billion TL in the first half of 1998.

The exports of securities investment fund participation certificates, which was 18 trillion 85 billion TL in the first half of 1997, inclined 14 percent to 20.6 trillion TL in the same period this year.

Meanwhile, the issues of securities based on assets, which was 7 trillion TL in the first half of 1997, decreased 43 percent to 4 trillion TL.

In the January-June 1998 period, a total of 60 billion TL of bonds were issued.

[10] PROF. DR. DEBAKEY ARRIVES IN ISTANBUL - INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL ISTANBUL AND HOUSTON METHODIST HOSPITAL TO SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENT

Prof. Dr. DeBakey, a famous heart surgeon who had held an operation on the hearts of Turgut Ozal, Turkey's defunct President, and Boris Yeltsin, the President of Russia, said that the agreement will provide bilateral exchange of technology and information.

[11] IZMIR FIRST INTERNATIONAL AGRICULTURE FAIR TO BE HELD BETWEEN 23-27 SEPTEMBER

The US, Iran, Cuba and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will be the participant countries while Bulgaria and Spain will attend the fair at delegation-level, and Israel and Britain will participate on company- basis.

Kenan Akin, the Minister of Agriculture of the TRNC; will also attend the fair which was organized by the Union of Agriculture Chambers and by the Forum Fair Organization.

[12] NEW ISTANBUL PROJECT TO START IN NEAR FUTURE

The giant project, in which France's New Cities Supreme Committee, France's giant public services company Suez-Lyonnaise Des Eaux and the Turkish Kentimar City Development and Trade Corp. have partnerships, targets to establish a 375 thousand-people regional center in the Thracian part of Istanbul.

Davut Genc, the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Kentimar, told the A.A correspondent, ''as a result of our activities carried out within the government, the new cities policy and especially our projects were brought into first plan. This project is expected to decrease the pressures of population, environment and society on Istanbul.''

Pointing out that the representatives of the Ministries of Public Works and Settlement, Environment and Finance, the Directorate General of Land Office and the State Planning Organization established a coordination committee led by the Undersecretariat of the Treasury, Genc said, ''this committee, within three years, has concluded all of the administrative and legal arrangements to pursue new city policies in the whole country especially in Istanbul and concluded the legal and administrative arrangements also for the Istanbul European New City Project.''

Stressing that they got the investment permit and all the concerned administrative permits; they started the initiative programme and accelerated the institutionalizing activities, Genc said that they will start the implementation of the project in near future following the final stabilization of the region.

Within the 15-year city development programme, almost 25 billion US dollars of economic revival is expected from the project, and also a total of 12 thousand people will be employed within this process.

Besides, a total of 5 billion US dollars of foreign investment opportunity will be created.
