The most powerful candidates for leadership of this movement is the mayor of Istanbul Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Abdullah Gul and the mayor of Ankara Melih Gokcek. Necmettin Erbakan seems uneasy about this development and prefers a new leader who represents the older generation. MİLLİYET (LIBERAL)PARTNERS TO CONVENE TOMORROWThe leaders of the political parties who represent the coalition government will convene tomorrow to evaluate the recent developments. Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz, Bulent Ecevit and Husamettin Cindoruk will participate in the meeting and they are expected to take up Susurluk Report and the case of Parsadan. SABAH (LIBERAL)NO WAY FOR THE NEW PARTYCourt of Appeal Chief Prosecutor Vural Savas says: ''If the Welfare Party (RP) members join the new party, the party members enter the new party lists, newspapers which support Welfare Party also extend support for this party, then we will regard the new party as the continuation of Welfare and we will bring a closure case against it before the court. CUMHURİYET (LEFT)WELFARE LOOKS FOR A WAY OUTNecmettin Erbakan, the leader of Welfare Party which has been closed recently, met Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz before the party was closed and claimed that a secret document of General Staff accuses Motherland Party (ANAP). Proposing Yılmaz to strengthen civilian authority against the military, Necmettin Erbakan said that if the Code on Political Parties could be changed, they could support the government. Yılmaz told Erbakan that he would be happy of their support, yet will not accept any conditions. TÜRKİYE (RIGHT)FBI MODEL FOR TURKISH POLICEThe government decided to launch efforts due to the criticisms regarding Turkish Police organization after the Susurluk accident. The government officals work on a new security model called ''Internal Security Unit'' and they will benefit from US examples. Particularly parliamentarians coming from bureaucracy are interested in this new police and security model. RADİKAL (LEFT)YILMAZ: ELECTION INITIATIVE IS OURSPrime Minister Mesut Yılmaz said the closure of Welfare has changed all the balances in parliament, lifting the threat of an early election. He said he is now targetting voters from Welfare's strongholds. ZAMAN (CONSERVATIVE)WEST CRITICIZES HARSHLYThe closure of Welfare Party created harsh reactions in US and Europe. The Western press described the decision as ''irrational in respect of democracy.'' YENİ YÜZYIL (LIBERAL)NO WAY FOR NEW WELFARECourt of Appeal Chief Prosecutor Vural Savas does not give up monitoring the activities of Welfare Party members. Savas is ready to bring a file against the party which will be established by them. Vural Savas is resolved not to allow a political party which seems to be a continuation of Welfare Party. [02] TURKEY-GERMANY - STATE MINISTER SAHIN IN GERMANYBONN, Jan 18 (A.A) - State Minister Refaiddin Sahin arrived in Nurnberg city of Germany on Saturday.State Minister Sahin met Nurnberg Mayor Ludwig Scholz the same day. Noting that Turkey is an important country regarding migration due to clashes in neighbouring countries, Sahin stated that Turkey struggles with crime organizations which make human smuggling to European countries and will continue to do so. Nurnberg Mayor Scholz in his part said that Germany is concerned about the immigrants who pass from Turkey to Italy, adding that the issue of illegal migration is also a problem in Germany. Scholz called Turkey to consider Germany's reaction concerning this issue in a positive way. State Minister Sahin will meet Interior Minister of Bavaria Gunther Beckstein and hold a meeting with Turkish citizens and representatives of Turkish associations on Sunday. [03] TURKEY-HUNGARY - IF FREE TRADE AGREEMENT BETWEEN TURKEY-HUNGARY ADOPTED IN PARLIAMENT, 40 PERCENT OF TURKISH EXPORTS TO ENTER HUNGARY WIHOUT CUSTOMS DUTIESANKARA, Jan 18 (A.A) - If Free Trade Agreement which was signed between Turkey and Hungary enters into enforcement, 40 percent of Turkish exports will enter Hungarian markets without any customs duties, it is reported on Sunday. The customs duties on other products will decrease to 40 percent.Turkey and Hungary signed the Free Trade Agreement in January last year, but if the parliament does not approve it this month and if the agreement does not enter into force till the beginning of this month, the agreement will be obsolete in respect of Hungarian parliament. Customs Deal signed with European Union (EU) urges Turkey to sign free trade agreement with all countries which signed the same agreement with EU. The Free Trade Agreement signed with Hungary foresees the Turkish textile and confectionary products to be outside the global quota implementation of Hungary, so Turkish textile products will enter Hungary without limitation of quantity. The foreign trade volume between the two countries, which is 200 million dollars today, is expected to double as soon as possible due to abolishment of taxes in foreign trade. The agreement foresees abolishment of taxes between the two countries till 2001. [04] TURKEY-US - US COMMERCE SECRETARY DALEY IN TURKEYANKARA, Jan 18 (A.A) - US Commerce Secretary William Daley and an accompanying delegation arrived in Ankara on Sunday.Daley will participate in the signature ceremony of ''Energy Investment and Cooperation'' agreement that will be signed between Suzer Holding and Pacificorp the same day. US Commerce Secretary Daley, who came to Turkey for a four-day ''improving business mission visit,'' will meet State Ministers Isın Celebi, Gunes Taner, Foreign Minister Ismail Cem and Transportation Minister Necdet Menzir on Monday. [05] TURKEY-US (2) - US COMMERCE SECRETARY DALEY IN ANKARA - STATE MINISTER ISIN CELEBI: ''US COMMERCE SECRETARY DALEY'S VISIT TO TURKEY WILL CONTRIBUTE TO IMPROVEMNET OF COMMERCIAL AND ECONOMIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES''ANKARA, Jan 18 (A.A) - State Minister Isın Celebi said on Sunday that the visit of US Commerce Minister William Daley to Turkey will contribute to improvement of existing commercial and economic relations between the two countries.Adddressing a statement at Esenboga Airport, Celebi stated that ''works will be done in Ankara and Istanbul to improve economic and commercial relations.'' US Commerce Secretary William Daley in his part said that the aim of his visit to Turkey is to further improve economic and commercial relations. Noting that NATO member Turkey is also a close ally of US, Daley pointed out that there are strong relations between the two countries and they look for ways to further improve them. Daley added that US wishes to help Turkey in its efforts to strengthen its economy and the accompanying businessmen delegation will meet Turkish government officials and businessmen during this visit. Pointing out that ''Council for Developing Business'' will convene in Ankara for the first time, Daley stressed that this meeting is a good opportunity for businessmen of the two countries regarding business possibilities and it will contribute to improvement of relations between Turkey and US.
