Two post-doctoral positions are available in the area of plasma processing for the deposition of microcrystalline silicon for photovoltaic applications. The successful candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or Chemistry, a strong background in thin-film deposition and related process diagnostic techniques.

These positions are available in the context of a European fifth framework R&D project concerned with up-scaling the deposition process of microcrystalline silicon solar cells to 30x30 cm2. Our task is to insure homogeneity and growth rates for the deposition of device-quality intrinsic microcrystalline layers, using process control and diagnostic techniques together with CFD modelling.

Both positions are open to young researchers from all over the world. The desired starting date is between January 1 and March 1, 2000. Both positions are available for two years, with a possibility of extension for a third year.

In addition to their work in Patras, both post-doctoral fellows will have the opportunity to spend periods of a few weeks in other laboratories of the consortium, doing complementary experimental work.

The other partners of this project are: Institut de Microtechnique Neuchatel (Prof. A. Shah), Forschungszentrum Juelich (Prof. H. Wagner), Laboratoire de Physique des Interfaces et des couches minces Palaiseau (Dr. P. Roca), Institute of Physics Prague (Dr. M. Vanecek), Phototronics ASE, and Free Energy Europe.
