HMS OF NEW YORK 1997 GRANTS

The Hellenic Medical Society of New York has the following grants, scholarships, and awards available for applicants of Hellenic heritage meeting the outlined requirements:

The Leonidas Lantzounis Research Grant of $2,000 will be awarded for basic or clinical biomedical research to be conducted under the auspices of a sponsoring senior investigator who will provide supervision, equipment and space. Selection will be based on the meritorious value of the research. Applicants must be medical students, public health Master's candidates or biomedical science Ph.D. candidates enrolled in an accredited college or university in the US. Interested applicants must submit five typed copies of the following: a cover letter requesting support, a biographical sketch, a summary or outline of the research projects (two page limit) and a letter of support from the senior investigator.

The Michael Mulinos Postgraduate Award of $500 is available to an author or investigator of a medical or health related topic, technical or non-technical. Applicants must have received an MD or advanced degree after 1991 and represent the principal or primary author or investigator when more than one individual is involved. Interested applicants must submit five typed copies of the following: a cover letter requesting support, a biographical sketch and a summary of the paper or manuscript (three page limit).

The Christ Bozes Award of $300 available to a high school student for an original paper on a medical or health related topic, technical or non-technical. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited high school and represent the principal or primary author when more than one individual is involved. Interested applicants must submit five typed copies of the following: a cover letter requesting consideration, a biographical sketch and a copy of the paper (three page limit) written specifically for this application.

Finally, there are medical scholarships for students maintaining a permanent residence within the quad-state area, (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania), matriculating in an accredited medical institution in the US for the 1996-1997 term, demonstrating high academic achievement, and/or demonstrating financial need. All qualified applicants must request an application in writing. It is a mandatory requirement that applicants chosen for consideration attend a personal interview August/September in New York City. Decisions will be made by October 1.
