London, May 19: Seminars by the Lobby for CyprusPublic Events Directory - Previous Article - Next ArticleFrom: "HR-Net News Distribution Manager" <dist@hri.org>Originally From: Lobby for Cyprus <admin@lobbyforcyprus.org> Lobby for Cyprus is proud to present two seminars at the Hellenic Centre, 16-18 Paddington Street, London W1M on Wednesday 19th May. 'Stop the Sale of Nuclear Reactors to Turkey' Guest Speaker: Jim Karygiannis M.P. (Canadian House of Commons) at 6:30pm on Wednesday 19th May 1999 Turkey is planning to site a nuclear power station on its south coast, less than 100km from Cyprus, in an earthquake zone. This seminar is our contribution to the world-wide campaign to prevent the sale of nuclear reactors to Turkey and presents all the issues against Turkey's promotion to a nuclear power. One of the companies bidding to sell nuclear know-how to Turkey, together with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, is the UK-based company Kvaerner-John Brown. 'The Genocide of the Armenians and Pontians' Guest Speakers: Ara Sarafian (Armenian Archival Scholar) and Jim Karygiannis M.P. at 8:00pm on Wednesday 19th May 1999 Turkey continues to deny any responsibility for the genocide of the Armenians and Pontians at a time when ethnic cleansing is an issue in Europe and the daily use of the word genocide dilutes its true meaning. Meanwhile Turkey continues her systematic campaign of culturally cleansing the occupied part of Cyprus and continues to flagrantly persecute the Kurdish population within Turkey. This seminar emphasises the importance of the international recognition of the genocides of 1.5 million Armenians and 350,000 Black Sea Pontian Greeks. Turkey must not be allowed to continue denying genocide committed this century. If you would like to attend either of these seminars you may reserve a seat by leaving a message on 0181 888 2556 or by sending an email to admin@lobbyforcyprus.org . Lobby for Cyprus has also scheduled events in Glasgow and Birmingham.
