Mr. Granovski underlined that the NATO bombings resulted to the dramatic escalation of the catastrophy in the wider Balkan region and are taking place in violation of every form of international law. He stated characteristically that the humanitarian catastrophy in Kossovo is the result and not the cause of the crisis, adding that the UN Security Council has the main responsibility to preserve peace and security and it should have reacted from the beginning of the crisis. The Russian ambassador attributed to strictly national interests the weakness of the UN Security Council members to give an essential response to the threat the Yugoslav people are facing.
