Among those participating in the conference will be ministers and other high-ranking officials from 22 countries. He added that Greece is the only country subject to threats and has no other choice but to fortify its defense capability so that it will be able to respond decisively in any case. [03] RICHARD HOLBROOKE: WAR IN THE AEGEAN IS UNFATHOMABLEWeb Posted: 17:46 GMT+2Thessaloniki, November 16 (MPA)The United States Presidential envoy for the Cyprus issue Richard Holbrooke, who is famous as "the architect of the Dayton Agreement" told a Greek newspaper that war breaking out in the Aegean, between Greece and Turkey is "unfathomable."Mr. Holbrooke stated that there is tension, but no crisis in the region. In regards to his plans for the Cyprus issue, the US diplomat stated that , at least at this phase, he is not working on a specific plan, but he is forming a policy that aims at improving the island's course towards the European Union. In Thessaloniki today, wreaths were laid before the heroes'; memorial at the Aristotle University's Polytechnic School. [05] JEWISH ARCHIVES STOLEN BY NAZIS FOUND, CONTAIN WEALTH OF INFORMATIONWeb Posted: 17:46 GMT+2Athens, November 16 (MPA)A score of information for Thessaloniki's Jewish community is revealed after the location of 250,000 documents in Moscow, which had been stolen by the Nazis during WWII from the Jewish community's archives.These files are being processed at the University of Tel Aviv, by the school's Head of the Greek Jews Department Myna Rozen. According to the historian, over 27,000 kilometers of shelves containing the Jewish communities' files, along with the Nazi's , Gestapo's, information of concentration camps, as well as private collections of Leon Bloom and Walter Benjamin, and other politicians, intellectuals and artists. The files concerning Greece's Jewish community amount 250,000 documents most of whom refer to the 1919-1941 time period. These documents contain birth certificates, community-membership requests and a full photographic list of the community's members during the 30s. [06] INTEREST RATES TO BE INCREASED TOMORROWWeb Posted: 17:46 GMT+2Athens, November 16 (MPA)Interest rates are to be hiked anew tomorrow, in an effort to maintain the drachma at healthy economic levels. The increases will concern deposits and subsidies.Both the Greek National Bank and the Credit Bank announced on Friday that they will increase their interest rates up to 2%.
