    Athens 6 October (MPA)

The Greek government speculates that there is room for improvement in the Greek-Turkish relations, stated Greek government spokesman Dimitris Reppas, who pointed out that both the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Turkey show an interest to participate in the Crete Summit meeting in spite of the new tensions observed lately in the Greek-Turkish relations.

Mr.Reppas stated that the events in New York do not reverse the spirit of Madrid and expressed hope for the normalization of relations between the two countries.

    Athens 6 October (MPA)

Greek government spokesman Dimitris Reppas gave the assurance that Greece will soon react to the second libelous publication of the British newspaper "The Observer", and stressed that Athens will examine all diplomatic ways in order to deal with the issue.

In statements made today, Undersecretary of Defense Dimitris Apostolakis and former Foreign Minister Karolos Papoulias spoke of a ridiculous effort by the Turkish propaganda which is aimed at creating negative impressions about Greece.

Athanasios Tsaldaris, one of the oldest politicians in the Greek post-war history, was buried today in Athens. Athanasios Tsaldaris died at the age of 76 on Saturday night.

[04] ABSTENTION WAS THE WINNER IN THE SERB ELECTIONS

    Web Posted: 15:37 GMT+2

    Belgrade 6 October (MPA)

The percentage of voters' participation in the presidential elections, that were held in Serbia yesterday, remains unclear. According to the first unofficial results, the percentage of participation did not exceed 50% of the registered voters.

If the information is confirmed by the Returning Board it means that elections will be regarded as invalid and a new voting will take place in 60 days.

The first results do not appear to be pleasant for Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, as ultra-nationalist Voicislav Seseli is leading the vote and the second place is occupied by Socialist candidate Zoran Lilic.

[05] "THE OBSERVER" LAUNCHED A NEW SLANDEROUS CAMPAIGN AGAINST GREECE

    Web Posted: 15:37 GMT+2

    London 6 October (MPA)

The British newspaper "The Observer" attacked Greece with a new libelous publication. It publishes again an interview of the Kurd Hazar, who maintains that he has at his disposal a computer diskette with names and addresses of alleged "17 November" members.

The tactic of the British newspaper was criticized by Lord Avbory and famous playwright Harold Pinter, who have sent letters maintaining that the newspaper "plays the game of the Turkish secret services".
