Athanasios Tsaldaris was 76 years old and was being elected to Parliament since 1963. [02] MR.ROMEOS PROTESTED STRONGLY AGAINST THE US STATE DEPARTMENT REPORTWeb Posted: 18:35 GMT+2New York 5 October (MPA)Greek Minister of Public Order Giorgos Romeos in his meeting with US officials in Washington expressed the Greek government's discontent regarding the two paragraphs on Greece that are included in the US State Department report on terrorism.Mr.Romeos raised the issue of the two Kurdish organizations' offices that are open in Athens and stressed that their operation is totally legal. He also stated that those offices exercise politics and do not engage in terrorist activities neither in Greece nor elsewhere. Mr.Romeos stated that similar offices operate around the world, as well as in the United States and Europe and added that Greece wants a retraction to be issued. The Greek Minister of Public Order also stated that in his talks with CIA Director George Tennet and FBI Director Louis Freeh, he rejected the US State Department accusations against the Greek government according to which, no progress has been achieved in the efforts to counter terrorism. [06] THE WEU POLICE FORCE IN ALBANIA WILL BE TRIPLEDWeb Posted: 18:35 GMT+2Tirana 5 October (MPA)The Western European Union decided today to triple the size of its police force in Albania in the next few months, according to WEU's Secretary- General, who is on a visit to Tirana.According to the French news agency AFP, the members of the European police force will be increased from 20 to 60 in an effort to reinforce the Albanian police. The WEU Secretary-General left open the possibility for the European force to stay in the country and after April, due to the fact that the reorganization of the Albanian police, which became imperative after the popular uprising last March, will be a long process. [C] WORLD[07] THE ARAB JOURNALISTS CONDEMNED THE TURKISH-IRANIAN INVASION OF IRAQWeb Posted: 18:35 GMT+2Cairo 5 October (MPA)The General Secretariat of the Arab Journalists Association, in a statement it has issued, condemns the recent attacks by the Turkish and Iranian armed forces in regions of northern Iraq.In the same statement, the Arab Journalists Association rejects all the unacceptable Turkish-Iranian excuses that have been used to justify their attacks on Iraqi territory and calls on the international community to intervene as soon as possible in order to stop the attacks against Iraq. The statement concludes by pointing out that Iraq's integrity and the future of the Arab people is a goal that should be supported by every faithful Arab regardless of political views or personal sensitivities.
