She spoke of changes in administration model, reorganization of study programs mergers of similar departments which will be the ground for reforms in tertiary education and will be discussed in autumn. Changes in Many Levels The new chart in tertiary education will derive from mergers of departments offering similar subjects, modernization and change in subjects and programs to make them more attractive to candidates and closure of departments with small number of students. The country needs a unified Tertiary Education with two axes: Universities and Technical Institutes. Closure, mergers, creation of new departments will be linked to the new organization of studies. There will be program of studies and cooperation which will be examined for each region, said Mrs. Diamantopoulou. The Education Ministry plans to lift terms for registrations in regional universities to deal with the problem of students in the same family studying in different areas and their families bearing the cost of more than one rent. Deliberations starting in autumn plan to change the administration model leading to independence of each institution but obligation of accountability regarding management of funds. The financing of institutions depending on the number of students was also brought on.
