    The Political Committee of the ND party elected Andreas Lykuretzos in the post of the party's secretary. Mr. Lykourezos was the only candidate who received unanimous support. "We are ready to support the ideas and program of the ND party's leader A. Samaras which will give hope to the country" said A. Lykourezos in his address to the members of the Political Committee.

    He also committed himself to work for the reorganization of the party and the reduction of bureaucracy.

    Earlier, at the opening of procedures for the election of the party's secretary, ND president A. Samaras placed heavy weight on the strategy of hope which will give prospect with arguments and clear proposals. In his speech, Mr. Samaras underlined the party to survive is the one that will close its accounts with past.

    [02] All-day Outpatient Services at State Hospitals

    Draft-bill on reforms in National Health System (NHS) to be tabled to the Parliament till the end of the month provides for all-day outpatient services at state hospitals as in private clinics. The draft-bill also includes regulations concerning smoking ban in all public places as of September, 1 and fines from â¬50 to 500 euros for individuals and â¬500 to â¬10.000 for businesses and shops breaching regulations. The aim of the new draft-bill is to upgrade the NHS in order to better serve citizens, support regional and remote islands' hospitals giving incentives to doctors said Health Minister Mariliza Xenoyiannakopoulou.

    Health D/B to Be Tabled to the Parliament

    Some 20 hospitals nationwide will be operating 24 hours till the end of summer as provided by the new draft-bill on reforms in NHS to be tabled to the Parliament till the end of the month. Hospitals in this list are the ones that already operate afternoon outpatient services.

    The aim of the draft-bill aims to upgrade the National Health System to better serve people while it also aims to double or triple hospital revenues, said Health Minister Mariliza Xenoyiannakopoulou who stated determined to purge the Health sector.

    She also said an amendment to be tabled to the parliament provides for a settlement for the full payment of debts. Mrs. Xenoyiannakopoulou spoke of blackmailing from part of hospital suppliers who do not deliver supplies to hospitals.

    PASOK deputy Vaso Papandreou objects to regulation for the settlement of debts, underlining that she would vote against the relevant articles. On her part, the Heath Minister maintained that this regulation achieves the largest ever discount.
