  • [01] Illegal Emigration our Priority

    Preparations on emigrants' reception center that are going to host illegal emigrants are moving fast. Deputy minister of internal affairs Christos Markogiannakis said that this initiative targets at providing illegal emigrants the chance to live under human conditions. He also added that the Hellenic Police focuses on tackling the problem of illegal emigration. However, the trip of these people who travel with the prospect for a better life is leading to an odyssey. Markogiannakis said that police intervention in Athens city center will be massive after a month and half or so when all reception centers will be equipped and well prepared to receive emigrants until the procedures for their return to their countries are completed. He also pointed out that the cabinet discussed the cost of this initiative. Minister of Finance committed to provide the funds for the maintenance the food and clothing of the emigrants.

    Acropolis museum site www.theacropolismuseum.gr opens its gate and will receive web visitors on Monday June 15, 2009. The website is an electronic map to our unique cultural heritage unfolding that way the route from the archaic times until today. A route that does not only involve the exhibits but also the contemporary image of the Greek civilization as the Acropolis Museum constitutes one of its best representatives.

    Navigation to the site includes the following six units:

    1. The operation of the museum (open hours, accessibility, installations etc.)

    2. Collections (exhibits, historic elements etc.)

    3. Educational Programmes

    4. The Museum (organization, history etc.)

    5. The Museum's display (information and photo material, Press Office, Contact)

    6. Tickets

    The e-ticketing innovative application allows everyone in the world to buy a ticket defining precisely the day and time of his/her visit. This application will smooth the museum's better opening hours management.

    [03] H1N1 Flu: Cases Rise to 20 in Greece

    H1N1 flu cases in Greece rose to twenty. An 11 months baby was affected by a 15 years old American who came from New York and was hosted in the baby's house. The 20th case was recorded yesterday in a 20 years old woman from Peru who came from New York. She presented mild symptoms and she is now being given medical treatment at home. After his meeting yesterday with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, Minister of health Dimitris Avramopoulos appeared reassuring stressing Greece is prepared that at the sight of summer. The National Centre of Health Operations and the National Pandemic Influenza Committee are meeting tomorrow at 11.30. A press conference will follow
