The meeting between George Papandreou and Costas Simitis was held in a very good climate at the Mr Papandreou's office in the Parliament Thursday afternoon. The meeting focused on developments in the economy, while Mr Simitis stressed that he is fighting and will be fighting for PASOK's victory. As per information, they did not discuss anything on roles and positions, while Mr Simitis will be invited as former prime minister at PASOK's Parliamentary Group.

It is clear that Greece needs a change of course, stated the former PM after an hour meeting in Parliament on Thursday with the PASOK president.

Mr Simitis stated that a very useful and extended discussion took place on developments in the global financial crisis and the crisis in Greece.

The excessive debt, the constant deficits and the fact that we pay higher interest rates have intensified the crisis and the ND - abashed and callow is responsible for them added he, stressing that it is clear that Greece should change course. Mr Simitis agreed with Mr Papandreou's proposals on the evolution of the Stability Programme, as well as with the issuing of a euro bond.

They also agreed that Greece has a double programme: first to exit and the financial crisis and then what it will do next. To that point, they discussed the developmental model.

Mr Simitis from his side said that he would continue supporting PASOK with ways that he believes they serve Greece's interests.
