Global stocks surged to record single-day gains on Monday. Nikkei index recorded gains that reached 14%. The Dow Jones industrial average closed up 936.42 points, or 11.08 percent, at 9,387.61. The Standard & Poors 500 Index surged 104.13 points, or 11.58 percent, at 1,003.35. The Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 194.74 points, or 11.81 percent, at 1,844.25. Whashington is expected to announce a plan of bank stocks buy out in order to restore the flow of consumers and businesses capitals. Governments in Japan and Australia proceeded to fluid injections to markets. "State finance of countries in the European Union is going to deteriorate due to the financial crisis but the important thing is to restore trust in markets", the Commission stresses at the sight of the Summit Meeting, Brussels. Meantime, crude oil delivery fell to &#8356; 83,7 in Asian electronic transactions.

Governments around the world bet hundreds of billions of dollars to rescue failing banks on Monday, sending world stocks soaring and giving Wall Street its biggest one-day gain ever. The Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 index raced to an 11 percent gain, their biggest ever, after recording their worst week in history last week. The Tokyo stock market surged in early trading Tuesday on the heels of a jump on Wall Street with the Nikkei 225 Stock Average rising 13 per cent. The Bank of Japan also pumped 1 trillion yen ($9.94 billion) into the Tokyo money markets Tuesday to ease a credit crunch stemming from the crisis.

[02] Strong Quake Rocks Mandoudi

Seismologists at the Athens Geodynamic Institute said the underwater quake took place at 5.06 a.m. and had an epicentre just northeast of Athens, about 40 km northeast of the island of Evia near Mandoudi. The institute corrected their original measurement of the quake, which was 6.6.Two smaller earthquakes took place a few minutes later.The quake startled people in Athens, in Haldika, the capital on Evia, and the nearby coastal town of Mandouri.Municipal officials on Evia said there were no reports of injuries or damage

[03] 130 Schools under Student Sit-In

Ministry of Education reported that 130 High Schools and Lyceums are under student sit in. OLME (Greek Federation of State School Teachers of Secondary Education) announced that 200 High Schools and Lykeia across Greece are occupied by students, who demand better buildings, labs, indoor gyms, more lecturing halls and more professors. Education minister stated that students sit in has become fashion. On reference to secondary teachers mobilizations in December he said that the ministry can not allow their demands due to the international financial crisis.
