    Temperatures in Athens will range from 24 to 37 degrees centigrade, and in Thessaloniki from 22 to 36 degrees.

    [02] 2004 Olympics will be safe pledges PM

    Greece will be ready and safe for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, pledged Prime Minister Costas Simitis today, during an inspection of Olympic projects in the capital's coastal suburbs. Accompanied by the ministers of Culture and Public Works, as well as the President of the Athens 2004 organising committee, Simitis visited the Olympic beach volley and sailing centres.

    [03] Earthquake aid paid to Lefkada residents, as normalcy returns

    Inhabitants of Lefkada are gradually resuming their daily routines, following last week's 6.4-Richter earthquake, and preliminary aid of 600 euros is already being distributed to those whose homes were damaged by the tremor. Further inspections of damaged premises will take place on Thursday, in order that the sum of 6,000 euros can be paid to homeowners towards the necessary repairs.

    [04] British tourist remanded in custody for murder in Rhodes

    A 21-year-old British tourist ' arrested for the murder of another young Briton ' was remanded in custody today, pending trial, on the island of Rhodes, while five of their compatriots were released on bail. Mark Navaro was charged with the killing of 17-year-old Paddy Doran, whom he allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle, during a drunken brawl at a nightclub on the island last week.

    [05] Public enquiry call after US troops kill Reuters cameraman

    World media bodies demanded a public enquiry today into the killing by US troops of a Reuters television cameraman, the second journalist from the international news agency to be killed in Iraq in four months. Washington was urged to investigate how a soldier apparently mistook Mazen Dana's camera for a grenade launcher yesterday.

    [06] Purported al Qaeda tape urges Muslims to fight US troops

    Al Arabiya television today aired an audio tape it said was from an al Qaeda spokesman, saying Osama bin Laden and Taliban chief Mullah Omar were alive and urging Muslims to fight a holy war against US troops in Iraq.

    [07] Top Blair aide doubted level of Iraqi threat

    The dossier on which British Prime Minister Tony Blair based his case for war against Iraq contained no proof of any threat from Baghdad, according to an e-mail from a top aide, released today. The e-mail is the first sign of questioning within Blair's inner circle about the strength of intelligence used to justify a war that most Britons opposed.

    [08] Hizbollah renews threat to capture Israelis

    Hizbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah expects negotiations soon on a prisoner swap with Israel, but said the guerrilla group was serious in its threat to kidnap more Israeli soldiers if talks fail, according to a newspaper report today
