[02] Electoral law change to be discussed

Following an invitation letter sent to all political party leaders, Interior Minister Costas Scandalides will meet them tomorrow to discuss the change of the electoral law.

In tandem, Prime Minister Costas Simitis is sending letters to all PASOK MPs to present all information regarding their investments at the Athens Stock Exchange from 1997 to 2002, claiming thus that the political life will be protected and full transparency will be achieved.

At the same time, New Democracy party spokesman Thodoris Rousopoulos stated that the Capital Market Committee that had been appointed by the government and which the Public Prosecutor had described credible will allegedly check PASOK party MPs' transactions with the Athens Stock Exchange.

From his side, government spokesman Christos Protopapas told NET 105.8 that the New Democracy party could object to the electoral law, but is unable to utter a political speech.

Additionally, he said that refusing to participate in a dialogue is dangerous for the democratic institutions and that with its stance the ND party abandons its institutional role.

Finally, Interior Deputy Minister Nikos Bistis told our station that the New Democracy party should have a look at opinion polls and become flexible, adding that it was inconceivable for the parties of the Left not to participate in the dialogue.
