    A fine and hot day is forecast. Winds notherly,light to moderate turning strong in the southeast Aegean. Temperatures in Athens will range between 24 C to 37 C and in Thessaloniki between 22 C to 36 C.

    [02] Prime-minister Simitis reviews Greek EU Presidency

    Greece s E.U 6-month rotating Presidency officially concludes today with the presentation of a review to the E.U Parliament plenary session by Prime-minister, Kostas Simitis.

    Following yesterday s briefing of the President of the Republic and the inner cabinet, Simitis expressed satisfaction over the results of Greece s E.U presidency, underlining that it materialised all its commitments and enjoyed general recognition. He placed special emphasis on the approval of the plan for a new E.U constitution and the strengthening of the Lisbon EU summit meeting related to immigration as well as foreign, defence and security policies.

    In the meantime, the ruling Pasok party Executive Office meets tomorrow in view of political initiatives Prime-minister, Simitis had announced for after the conclusion of Greece s EU presidency.

    [03] Heat wave to hit Greece

    In view of the heat wave forecast to hit Greece from Wednesday to Friday, health services are in a state of readiness to deal with any emergencies and if necessary the Xenocratis plan will be implemented. People, particularly the elderly and the young are advised to stay indoors and drink lots of fluids. Air-conditioned halls in municipal clubs and health departments will be open to the public from 9a.m to 8p.m.

    [04] Deadline for submission of documents for residence permits expired

    The deadline for the submission of documents for the issue of residence permits expired yesterday .

    According to a foreign Ministry announcement, immigrants who are awaiting the renewal or issue of a residence permit and those whose passports have not expired will not be deported till October 30.
