[03] Memorial service for A. Papandreou

A memorial service for the 7th anniversary of Andreas Papandreou's death was held at the I Athens Cemetery by PASOK this morning. Present were Prime Minister Costas Simitis and PASOK Secretary of the Central Committee Costas Laliotis.

Mr Simitis is leaving tomorrow for Washington, where as the head of a European Committee he will meet with the American President George Bush at the White House.

American and European officials consider the meeting upgraded due to the present juncture. It should be noted that the Prime Minister will host a meal to the former American President George Bush at the Maximos Mansion at 13:30 today in an effort to boost EU and American relations.

    [04] Explosives ship seized

680 tons of explosives and weapons were being transported on the 'Baltic Sea' freight, sailing under a Comoran flag, which was located in Greek territorial waters, off the Western Coast of Etolokarnania, taken over in a Special Forces operation, and led to the Platogialo harbor in Etolokarnania yesterday. The motor ship apparently belongs to Alpha Shipping company and is based in the Marshal Islands, and had a crew of 7 foreigners.
