    A partly cloudy day is forecast with local rain and showers in most parts of the country. Winds variable, moderate to strong. Temperatures in Athens will range between 17 C to 25 C and in Thessaloniki between 16 C and 23 C.

    [02] Sea Jet 1 passengers all safe

    All 163 passengers and 11 crew members of the catamaran Sea Jet 1 are in good health . They have been safely transferred to passenger and cruise ships sailing in the area after an engine failure which immobilized the ship.

    [03] Prime-minister Simitis in St. Petesbourg

    Prime-minister Simitis yesterday arrived in St. Petesbourg to participate in the city s 300th anniversary celebrations. As a representative of the EU Presidency, Simitis will meet with Russian President , Vladimir Putin and will attend an EU-Russia summit. Speaking to representatives of the Greek community in Russia, Simitis promised to discuss with President Putin the issue of their political restoration and personally see to the abolition of bureaucratic procedures in Greece for the issue of visas.

    Prime-minister Simitis yesterday received European commendations from the European Commissioner for foreign policy, Xavier Solana. In statements to BBC, Solana said that the Greek Prime-minister has all the qualities required for one of the permanent high ranking posts in the EU, whose establishment is currently being studied He added, however, that he believed that for the time being, Simitis is interested in remaining Greece s Prime-minister.

    In the meantime, Greek Foreign Minister, George Papandreou is in Brussels to take part in the sessions of the European Assembly focused on a new EU constitution

    [04] No further changes in the pension system

    In reply to relevant questions, both government spokesman, Tilemahos Hitiris and Labor undersecretary, Rovertos Spiliopoulos ruled out any further changes in the pension age limit.

    In the meantime, the First Boston Investment company , which took over the Beauty and Diet chain of beauty shops has expressed intention to gradually pay off salaries owed to employees provided they withdraw their financial demands legally pursued.

    In reference to the employees of the Palco company &#8211;which relocated to Bulgaria to lower production costs- the general director of the Unemployment office said that the government will subsidize laid off employees close to retirement age limit.

    [05] Limit of personal and consummer loans up

    According to reports, the limits of personal and consummer loans will be raised following a meeting of the governor of the Bank of Greece with the presidium of the Union of Greek banks.

    [06] More Greek beaches receive blue flags

    The Greek Society for the Protection of Nature awarded Blue flags to 373 Greek beaches up from 354 last year. The blue flag designation is an international symbol used in 36 countries and denotes that organised beaches meet certain standards for cleanliness, organisation and environmental protection. Areas in Greece that received the highest number of blue flags are the islands of the islands of the southern Aegean, the Ionian islands , the island of Crete and Central Macedonia.
