As a representative of the EU Presidency, Simitis will meet with Russian President , Vladimir Putin and will attend an EU-Russia summit. Speaking to representatives of the Greek community in Russia, Simitis promised to discuss with President Putin the issue of their political restoration and personally see to the abolition of bureaucratic procedures in Greece for the issue of visas.Prime-minister Simitis yesterday received European commendations from the European Commissioner for foreign policy, Xavier Solana. In statements to BBC, Solana said that the Greek Prime-minister has all the qualities required for one of the permanent high ranking posts in the EU, whose establishment is currently being studied He added, however, that he believed that for the time being, Simitis is interested in remaining Greece s Prime-minister. The blue flag designation is an international symbol used in 36 countries and denotes that organised beaches meet certain standards for cleanliness, organisation and environmental protection.
