    The National Meteorological Service forecasts for today a fine weather and with local rain in western, central and northern Greece. Winds northerly moderate turning to strong in the Aegean. The temperature in Athens will range from 16 to 32C and in Thessaloniki from 16 to 27C.

    [02] Papandreou &#8211; Gul agreement on mines ban

    The Greek and Turkish Foreign Ministers George Papandreou and Abdullah Gul verified their decision at the coastal town of Kas to ban the use of mines against personnel, announcing at the same time that Athens and Ankara will send their verification letter simultaneously to the United Nations.

    Commenting on the free crossing of the Green Line in Cyprus by Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, Mr Papandreou stated that it is a myth that Greek and Turks cannot live together. He also added that now Turkey has a clear European orientation and the European Union will take a very important decision for Turkey in 2004.

    From his side, Mr Gul stated that the Cyprus issue could be solved within a year, adding that the European Union and the United Nations could help towards that direction.

    [03] Earthquake - stricken Turkey numbers 151 dead

    The 6.4 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey on May Day has resulted in the death of 151 people, 68 of which were children of a boarding school. Additionally, hundreds were injured and thousands were left homeless. Moreover, 15 more children are still under the rubble of the collapsed school.

    [04] EU's 15 members meeting in Greece ends

    The two-day informal talks between foreign ministers of the EU's 15 members and the 10 countries - including Poland - that will enter the organisation next year ended yesterday on the Greek island of Kastellorizo, with the joint proposal for the paving of a common conception of European Defence.

    Foreign Minister George Papandreou stated that Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg's initiative for Euro Defence will be discussed during the European Union Constituent Assembly, adding that the separation of Iraq into three sectors under the United States, Britain and Poland's command will be discussed within Nato's framework.

    Finally, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities Abroad

    Ant&oacute;nio Manuel Mendon&ccedil;a Martins da Cruz announced on the sidelines of the Foreign Affairs meeting that a new meeting among the countries that had agreed to participate in the International stability force in Iraq will be held in London next week.
