[02] Turkey- Erdogan openly criticised Ancara s policy on Cyprus issue

In an interview with Turkish television , the leader of Turkey s ruling Justice and Development party, Tayip Erdogan for the first time openly criticised Ancara, calling for a revision of its last 40 years policy in the Cyprus issue saying that things will get worse unless the Cyprus political problem was resolved till February 28 . Erdogan stressed that the Cyprus issue was not Raulf Dektash personal affair when 30 thousand people stage demonstrations in northern Cyprus, protesting against his policy .

In the meantime, during their meeting with Dektash yesterday,Turkish- Cypriot leaders called him to resign stressing that procedures for the resolution of the Cyprus political problem could not continue with Dektash as negotiator.

On his part, explaining his negative stand on the UN peace plan, Dektash underlined that he acted on the grounds of the Turkish national assembly resolutions, denying rumors that he was exercising his personal policy .

Cyprus President, Glafkos Kleridis was not very optimistic about rapid developments in the Cyprus issue while he did not rule out running for the post of President in the next elections.

Cyprus Foreign Minister, Giannakis Kassoulidis spoke of a post Dektash era stressing the sooner he realised it the better.
