At the same time, the quake-stricken people will receive Є 587 as subsidy, while the hotels have been rented to host the homeless. Additionally, measures are being taken for house repairs and rent subsidies. On a relative development, in an interview with NET, seismologist professor Costas Makropoulos stated that it is still early to state with certainty whether that was the main earthquake, adding that 48 hours must pass before safe conclusions are reached. Finally, schools will remain closed in the prefecture of Ilia and Zakynthos also today. The Copenhagen Summit Meeting will be held on December 12 and a solution of the Cyprus issue should be found by then.In Nicosia, the National Council is continuing its deliberations, while according to information the President of the Cyprus Republic will give his answer on Wednesday, while the Turkish –Cypriots may answer today. At the same time, Foreign Minister George Papandreou is leaving for Ankara today to meet with the new Turkish leadership and have discussions with American Undersecretary of state Mark Grossman. Athens gives special emphasis on this trip, since Mr Papandreou will discuss with his interlocutors the Cyprus issue, the Annan plan and Greek-Turkish relations. Meanwhile, Cyprus is the first candidate country as of yesterday that has concluded its negotiations for its accession to the European Union. According to what the ex Cypriot President Giorgos Vasiliou stated to our programme, the Helsinki agreement states that Cyprus' accession will be suspended only if the Cypriot side is held responsible, adding that the European Union wishes the island's reunification, a development that depends on the Turkish-Cypriots' stance.
