    Rain in the eastern and southern Greek mainland is forecast on Monday, improving heading into the afternoon. Clouds elsewhere with scattered showers possible. Northwesterly winds, weak to moderate. Temperatures between 14C to 27 in the north; 17C to 29 in the rest of the country.

    Partly cloudy with a chance of rain in Athens, 18C to 28C. Chance of rain in Thessaloniki, 17C to 26C.

    [02] Efforts to re-open Universities

    The future of the September examining period of Universities, due to professors&#8217; abstention is expected to be decided upon during today&#8217;s extraordinary meeting of rectors with the participation of Education Minister Petros Efthymiou.

    In an interview with our radio station, National Technical School rector Themistoklis Xanthopoulos stated that he was optimistic that this painful crisis for Universities would end today.

    At the same time, in an interview with NET 105.8, the rector of the Athens Agronomic University Andreas Karamanos stated that he would try to bring the two sides closer so that Universities would operate normally.

    [03] Simitis criticizes the New Democracy party

    Within the framework of the usual Press Conference on the occasion of the Thessaloniki Trade Fair, Prime Minister Costas Simitis launched an attack against the New Democracy party for its tactics on the issue of terrorism. He also stressed that the right-wing has created the parastate and now is accusing PASOK of the issue of terrorism so as to balance things.

    Referring to the arrested "November 17" members to politicize the trial that will follow, Mr Simitis described them as criminals without vision, stressing that the terrorist organization had been fully broken up.

    From his side, New Democracy party leader Costas Karamanlis said that it was audacity on behalf of Mr Simitis to try to distort the positions of the New Democracy party.

    Meanwhile, in an interview with NET 105.8, member of the PASOK Executive Bureau Michalis Neonakis stated that the New Democracy party should adopt a stance regarding its cadres who are differentiating themselves from party&#8217;s official position.

    On a relative development, following his testimony before special magistrate Leonidas Zervobeakos, "N 17" member Dimitris Koufodinas was taken to Korydalos prison. Koufodinas accepted his participation in the organization resuming only political responsibility for its actions.

    Moreover, Avraam Lesperoglou will be re-tried today on the charges of attempted manslaughter against policeman Giorgos Psaroudakis.

    Finally, an improvised low-power explosive device exploded at the yard of publisher Georgios Tsoutsia&#8217;s house in Kifisia at 03:53 local time today.

    [04] Simitis praises the Greek economy

    Prime Minister Costas Simitis underlined in Thessaloniki that Greece is the fastest developing country in the eurozone, referring to the positive course of the economy.

    However, he stressed that no convergence-firework could take place and pay rises be given that would eventually turn against employees.

    The Prime Minister pointed out that irrelevant of the result of the Municipal elections, he would not proceed with a government reshuffle, adding that he would not run for the country&#8217;s Presidency in 2005.

    From his side, New Democracy party leader Costas Karamanlis called on all civilians to express their disatisfaction over the government policy.

    The Greek Communist party and the Synaspismos party also criticized the government policy.

    [05] 10 infants sold by Albanians

    A 47-year-old Albnanian and his 23-year accomplice were arrested in Korytsa because they had sold ten infants. They used to locate pregnant women with financial problems, helped them bear their children and then sold them.
