    The National Meteorological Service forecasts for today a fine weather with local cloud in the north, and northerly and north-westerly moderate to strong winds.

    The temperature in Athens will range from 24 to 34 degrees Centigrate and in Thessaloniki from 23 to 31 degrees.

    [02] Celebrations for Assumption of Virgin Mary

    The Assumption of the Virgin was celebrated all over the country, with the epicentre of celebrations being the islands of Tinos and Paros. President of the Hellenic Republic Costis Stephanopoulos attended the Mass in Ekatopyliani church on Paros. Later he visited the Town Hall where he received the freedom of Paros. Celebrations were also held at Panayia Soumela church, where Archbishop Christodoulos officiated. Present was New Democracy President Costas Karamanlis, with the government being represented by Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos and Macedonia- Thrace Ministry Giorgos Paschalides.

    Celebrations also took place in Cyprus with the epicentre being the Kykkos Monastery. Thousands of worshipers also gathered at the Monastery of Virgin Mary Chrysorrogiatisa at the Machairas Holy Monastery.

    Cypriots also remember these days the second Turkish invasion that took place in 1974, causing death and destruction.

    [03] Floods continue in Central and Eastern Europe

    Many countries of Central and Eastern Europe are facing serious problems due to the adverse weather conditions that prevailed there. In Check, the municipality of Prague has ordered the evacuation of more area, since the water level of the Moldava is continually rising, causing problems to power supply and communications. Greece has sent a special unit EMAK, to offer its help.

    The level of the Danube has also risen in Bratislava, Slovakia leading to the evacuation of various areas for fear of floods.

    At the same time, Austria and Germany have sustained terrible disasters due to flooding, while 400 patients were transferred to Cologne and Berlin from hospitals in Dresden because this city was flooded.

    In Saxony, thousands of people left their homes, after the Elva overflowed. Its level is expected to reach 8.5 metres, the highest in the last 150 years. The level of the river usually reaches two metres.

    In South-western Russia, 62 people have lost their lives up to now, while the mostly hit resort of Siroka Balka has been put into quarantine, since the prevailing high temperatures may lead to the outbreak of epidemics like typhoid and hepatitis.

    In Asia, at least 700 people have lost their lives due to landslides and floods, while the homeless are millions. Epidemics have begun breaking out. Additionally, the situation is expected to worsen further, since meteorologists warn that heavy rainfalls are expected to be intensified in the next 24 hours.

    [04] Giotopoulos to testify again

    Alexandros Giotopoulos will testify once more before magistrate Leonidas Zervobeakos tomorrow, following Savvas Xiros&#8217; testimony.

    Meanwhile, all "17 November" members kept in prison are allowed to have a radio in their cells, except for Alexandros Giotopoulos, who has filled a second report, protesting for the conditions under which he is being detained.
