Public prosecutor, Leonidas Zerbobeakos will today interrogate Savvas Xiros, the November 17 member whose failed bomb attack on a ferry operator at the Athens port of Pireus on June 30 made the breakthrough in hunting down the guerilla group. Xiros revealed names of other members.

In the meantime Greek police doubt the authenticity of a letter sent to the Eleftherotypia newspaper purportedly by November 17 guerillas vowing to fight on despite arrest of some members. The five-page letter was found in a garbage bin following an anonymous call to the newspaper offices.

The letter was received a day after the group s suspected leader and 10 other alleged members were jailed while awaiting trial for 23 murders. It says that they will wait for their fair trial and threatens that the group would take hostages to exchange with suspects in custody.

During yesterday s meeting of the Pasok party executive office, Prime-minister Simitis said that according to police authorities the proclamation was not genuine and underlined that the people had a positive evaluation of the government s responsibility and effectiveness in the chase of the November 17 terrorist group.

In the only official comment on the letter, Public Order Minister, Mihalis Hrisohoidis , muttered rubbish to reporters who asked questions about the authenticity of the letter , adding that the letter had been written but some who want to maintain the shadow of the organisation.

The members of the Pasok party Executive Office expressed conviction that the government and the police authorities will continue efforts all in accordance with the constitution to dismantle the November 17 organisation.

The President of the Coalition of the Left and Progress Nikos Konstantopoulos said that democracy does not have a dialogue with terrorists who will account for their actions in a fair trial.

American President , George Bush congratulated the Greek government on its success in hunting down the November 17 guerilla group.
