(4/7/2002 12:55:00 μμ) [02] Greek anti-terror police launch major terror hunt in AthensThere are swift developments in the combat of terrorism following the discovery of a secret hide-out belonging to the November 17 organization in an apartment in the Athens district of Patisia.The anti-terrorist police have blocked apartment buildings and cordoned off streets in Patissia. Tenants have been evacuated from the apartment building where the hide-out was discovered.According to reliable sources ,members of the anti- terrorist squad have found a flag used by the group, as well as anti-artillery rockets , a large number of weapons and several computers. Since a weekend blast in the busy port of Pireus police have brought in dozens of people for questioning and continued home searches. Police distributed photographs of the alleged bomber, Savvas Xiros –who has yet to be questioned as he is still under guard in hospital with serious injuries- and asked the public for information about the man dialing the numbers 170 and 1964 . Public Order Minister, Mihalis Hrisohoidis last night briefed Prime-minister Simitis on the operations but did not reveal any details, he only said after the meeting that investigations are proceeding well. Earlier Mr. Simitis had said that Greece had to treat the matter seriously if it is to be resolved. Government spokesman , Hristos Protopappas warned against any interference in the police s work and specially against speculation about any public figures being involved in terrorism. The President of the N.D party , Kostas Karamnlis said that determination , responsibility and seriousness were necessary to eliminate terrorism. American Ambassador in Athens , Thomas Miller said the police and Greek authorities were doing a very good job and reiterated that he felt perfectly safe in Greece. Mr. Miller expressed satisfaction at the recent developments but underlined that it was too soon to draw conclusions. (4/7/2002 12:57:00 μμ) [03] MRB survey indicates N.D party aheadThe results of a survey conducted by MRB after the disolution of the Free Citizens Movement , indicates that the main opposition N.D party is leading by 9% in voters preference . When questionad how they would vote in the next elections , 37,7% said the conservative party, followed by 28,3% for the ruling PASOK party .
