    Showers are forecast in most parts of the country on Friday with snow on high ground and storms at sea. Winds variable, moderate to very strong, turning gale force in the Aegean. Showers in Athens with snow on Mount Parnes. Temperatures between 5C and 9C. Cloudy in Thessaloniki with temperatures from 2C to 5C.

    [03] Russian President on an official visit to Greece. Signed six bilateral agreements

    Russian President Vladimir Putin who is on a three-day official visit to Greece will today meet with Prime-minister Simitis. Mr. Putin visited the Acropolis and laid a reath at the monument of the Unknown Soldier. Greek police has imposed strict security measures during his stay in Athens .Yesterday , both sides signed six agreements of which the agreement on energy is considered the most important.

    During the talks between Greek President Kostis Stefanopoulos and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a coincidence of views on the Cyprus , the Balcans and the ME issues was noted.

    [04] E.U 15 Justice Ministers agree on decision to combat terrorism

    In Brussels yesterday, te 15 EU Justice Ministers adopted a decision on the combat of terrorism, which guarantees the basic human rigths .

    However , the 15 EU Justice Ministers failed to reach a decision on thhe drawing up of a common European arrest warrant due to Italy´s objections on the crimes it will refer to.

    [05] U.N special envoy said Cyprus issue solution in six months

    U.N special envoy on Cyprus, Alvaro de Sotto expressed optimism that the Cyprus issue would be resolved in six months.Commenting on the recent developments, Greek Foreign Minister, George Papandreou said that we should be optimistic but realistic as well.

    Direct talks between Cyprus President Galfkos Klerides and Turkish-Cypriot representative raulf Dektash, which bebegin in January have become the focus of interest.

    [06] Fiscal and income stability, basic axis of the Greek economy development program

    Fiscal and income stability as well as the strenghtening of business and employment competion are the basic axis of the revised stability and development program for the Greek economy, submitted to the European Commission.

    The pace of development will move around 3.8% while inflation rate is expected to remain below 3%. Rise in salaries will not surpass 2,5%.

    [07] New drug curing chronic leukemia comes to Greece in December

    The newly discovered drug, CLIVEC which cures chronic leukemia caused by marrow abnormality is expected to circulate in Greecebefore Christmas.

    The National Health System-ESY and the Social Security Foundation-IKA will give the drug free to those suffering from this form of cancer Pasok and ND parties vote in favour of amendment providing for the hiring in the public sector of deputy assistants.

    The Pasok and ND parties only voted in favour of an amendment which provides for the hiring in prefectures and state offices of deputies assistants who served in one or more deputy offices for two years even not continously-from 1994 to the present.

    [08] Earthquake in Halkidiki

    An earthquake measuring 4 degrees on the Richter scale was recorded on the region of Halkidiki last night.
