It is the first time that a President of the Cyprus Republic crosses the green line. The agreement was welcomed from Athens, Ankara, Brussels and Washington, while Prime Minister described that development as progress. The New Democracy party also reacted positively to this development. Finally, the Cyrpus issue will be discussed between Turkish Foreign minister Bouled Ecevit and American Secretary of State Dick Powell in Ankara today. [04] Great changes from now till 2004 to occur says SimitisAt a dinner hosted by the Correspondets Union of Foreign Press, Prime Minister Costas Simitis described the period from now until 2004 as one with "great changes".He also stated that he would lead Pasok in the next elections and that he himself would raise the issue of his succession. Mr. Simitis reitererated the government' s decision to promote structural changes and privatisations. He rejected Intrakom President' s proposal for a unification with the Greek Telecommunications Organisation (OTE) and stressed that the government' s proposals on the reform of the Social Secrurity System would be ready in January. Additionally, the Prime Minister pointed out that Labour minister Rovertos Spyropoulos had never referred to the abolishing of early retirement of women. In an interview with NET, Mr. Spyropoulos stated that any proposed changes would be made on the basis of the protection of motherhood. [06] Putin to visit GreeceSix bilateral agreements will be signed by Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will be on a three-day visit to Athens on Thursday.The agreements will be on fuel and energy, air transportation, the establishment of cultural centers as well as, the cooperation between the Justice Ministries of the two countries, police cooperation and shipping sector cooperation.
