  • [01] We welcome the restart of the bi-communal talks on the Cyprus issue, gov't spokesman says

We welcome the restart of the bi-communal talks on the Cyprus issue, decided last night in Nicosia, State Minister and government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said.

"Greece, in constant coordination with Cyprus, will continue to work intensively to exhaust all posibilities fo a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem. On this basis, it will intensify its diplomatic actions, in the framework of the European Union, in order to enable the convergence and the critical issue of security and guarantees, and for which it has repeatedly made its positions clear," Tzanakopoulos said.

Only on the basis of this arrangement, the framework and bilateral Greek-Turkish consultations, can a multilateral conference for a fair and viable solution to the Cyprus problem be held in accordance with the UN resolutions and the status of Cyprus as an EU Member State," the government spokesman concluded.

[02] Conference on tourism and museums at Benaki Museum

A conference on tourism and museums will take place on Thursday, December 8, at Benaki Museum.

Museums, cultural institutions and archaeological sites are traditional tourist attractions in a country like Greece, where tourism has widespread economic, social and political impact. However, representatives of cultural institutions have just recognised their power to attract the tourists and their impact on the tourism industry, constituting a powerful growth driver.

As cultural tourism is turning into an industry of experience, museums have the opportunity to further penetrate the tourism market and increase visitors and revenues, while strengthening their special role in the narrative of history, culture and life in modern societies.

In the sixth conference for the museums, professionals from the museum and the wider cultural sector in Greece, the USA and Great Britain will examine how museums and cultural organisations can strengthen their role as tourist destinations and participate in sustainable cultural development. They will also examine how they can improve their relationships and build stronger synergies with the local authority, tourism associations and other interested groups in order to increase the number of visits as well as the kind of financial and development options they can pursue based on tourism model. And finally how investing in culture and museums in particular can have a strong impact on the economy of the country for which tourism is a key industry.
