ANA-MPA -- Greece's Environment, Energy and Climate Change ministry on Friday officially announced it has reached an agreement with the consortium Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) over the content of a Host Government Agreement.

"The agreement, safeguarding the stability of investment climate, is the final stage of our country's efforts to supporting the TAP project in a selection process of the Shah Deniz II consortium," the ministry said.

The official ceremony for the signing of the agreement will be held on a ministerial level in the next few days.

"With today's finalization of a Host Government Agreement for TAP, our country offers another advantage to the TAP project ahead of final decisions by Shah Deniz II. Our strong commitment, with the speedy completion of all necessary procedures, combined with an impeccable cooperation with Italy and Albania helped to highlight TAP as a strong contender and an equal rival of Nabucco West as an alternative supply root and energy security in the European Union," deputy minister Makis Papageorgiou said.

The deputy minister noted that latest developments in the energy sector enhanced the government's efforts to boost Greece's geopolitical position and confirmed investment interest for the country.
