    AMNA / Greek President Karolos Papoulias was briefed on Friday by caretaker PM Panagiotis Pikrammenos on the outcome of Wednesday's informal EU summit in Brussels.

    Speaking to reporters after the 40-minute meeting, Pikrammenos said that contrary to all the speculation and press articles in recent days, all the European partners want Greece to remain in the eurozone.

    The premier said that a discussion was also held at the summit on the taking of the necessary measures to combat unemployment and boost growth, and reiterated that the EU partners consider it self-evident that "our country, in turn, will abide by the commitments it has undertaken".amna

    [02] ASE ends below 500-mark level

    AMNA /Free-falling stocks on Friday returned to levels of more than 22 years ago, amid warnings over the possibility of Greece exiting the euro, pushing the composite index of the market below the 500 level.

    The index ended at 485.18 points, off 3.45 pct, for a net loss of 11.81 pct in the week.

    The index is down 28.69 pct so far this year. The Athens Stock Exchange has risen only in two sessions in the period after the May 6 elections in the country, suffering a 24.65 pct loss during this post-election period. amna

    The market's capitalisation fell at 20 billion euros, accounting for less than 10 pct of the country's GDP in 2011, the lowest rate in Europe. Turnover was a low 32.038 million euros.

    The Big Cap index dropped 3.43 pct, the Mid Cap index ended 1.45 pct lower and the Small Cap index rose 0.51 pct. The Chemicals (7.59 pct), Technology (5.81 pct) and Health (2.96 pct) sectors scored gains, while Constructions (9.19 pct), Food (7.22 pct) and Oil (4.54 pct) suffered losses.www.amna.gr

    Folli Follie (3.03 pct), OTE (2.92 pct) and OPAP (1.32 pct) were top gainers among blue chip stocks, while Titan (10.26 pct), Coca Cola 3E (7.38 pct) and Hellenic Postbank (7.35 pct) were top losers.

    Broadly, decliners led advancers by 65 to 53 with another 20 issues unchanged.
