  • [01] ND spokesman lashes out at FinMin; MP Bakoyannis

(ANA-MPA) -- The main opposition New Democracy (ND) party on Thursday accused Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos and MP Dora Bakoyannis, the one-time ND MP and founder of the new Democratic Alliance party, of misquoting ND leader Antonis Samaras.

ND party spokesman Yiannis Mihelakis stated that Venizelos and Bakoyannis, a previous minister, have resorted to an unprecedented misrepresentation of Samaras' statements and to "unacceptable slander", by maintaining that ND will vote against Memorandum II, currently debated in the Eurozone, without having studied it first.

Mihelakis referred to an "impropriety", saying political opponents are unable to challenge Samaras' positions as regards the unconstitutionality of their intention to have (ANA-MPA) Memorandum II passed with a majority of 180 MPs.

The ND spokesman said \ Samaras has clearly stated that if the new Memorandum is in the right direction and is good for the country it will be approved by ND, but if it moves on the wrong direction, like the present memorandum, ND will vote against it -- regardless of the number of votes the government will set as a limit.

Mihelakis also underlined that Venizelos did not utter a word in response to the constitutionality issue raised by Samaras.

"The propaganda practices involving misquotations and slander expose Venizelos irreparably and prove him to be hypocritical when referring to consensus," Mihelakis stressed. (ANA-MPA)

[02] Gov't: Position stronger after votes

(ANA-MPA) -- Joining forces and sharing responsibility is the only way, according to Finance Minister and government vice-president Evangelos Venizelos, who expressed certainty on Thursday that Greece will go to Sunday's Eurogroup meeting much stronger following the approval received in Parliament of the medium-term fiscal strategy and enabling law.

Venizelos warned that things are still not easy for the country because "we must have clear messages as regards the participation of our partners in the debt management and we should overcome obstacles raised by countries like Finland that demand guarantees for their participation." (ANA-MPA)

The finance minister criticized main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Antonis Samaras for his stance, stressing that "the self-confidence he displayed earlier in parliament is due to the fact that the medium-term programme was passed, the country is now reliable and the government can continue the tough negotiation for the future of our country." [03] 'Indignados' back to Syntagma

The "Indignados" movement of protesters again resurfaced in front of Parliament in Syntagma Square in downtown Athens on Thursday, in the face of violent incidents a day earlier in the same area by self-styled anarchists and anti-state vandals.

The participants, mostly young people, reportedly vowed to continue mobilisations "for as long as necessary." A heavy riot police presence around Parliament was evident.
