  • [01] ASE opening: Rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Monday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.69 percent, standing at 2,720.03 points at 11:55 a.m., and turnover at 23.6 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Technology, up 2.11 percent; Public Utilities, up 1.63 percent and Health, up 1.58 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Insurance, down 4.82 percent; Mass Media, down 1.10 percent and Commerce, down 0.57 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.55 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.31 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.92 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 76 were up, 28 were down, and 18 were unchanged.

    Main opposition New Democracy's (ND) Extraordinary Congress and the election race for the party's leadership, the Piraeus port dockworkers' strike, the changes in social security, and EU pressure for immediate measures to curtail the fiscal deficit, dominated the headlines on Monday in Athens' newspapers.
