    THE HAGUE - EU leaders will hold their first meeting with Tony Blair in three weeks time amid cautious optimism it will prove easier to do business with Britain's new Labour prime minister than with his Conservative predecessors.

    BRUSSELS - European Commission President Jacques Santer congratulated British Labour leader Tony Blair on his election as British Prime Minister on Friday and said he wanted to meet him as soon as possible.

    BRUSSELS - Britain's European partners on Friday welcomed the Labour Party's landslide general election victory and expressed hope a new government under Tony Blair would be an easier partner in European integration.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Friday it had approved a plan by U.S. company Tenneco to buy the protective and flexible packaging division of KNP BT.

    PARIS - European Commission President Jacques Santer denounced on Saturday as "inexcusable" the way French auto maker Renault SA closed its factory at Vilvoorde, Belgium, in February.
