LUXEMBOURG - European Union foreign ministers agreed a new law on Monday to
counter U.S. anti-Cuba legislation, EU diplomats said.
[02] Strict limit on EU-Burma contacts
LUXEMBOURG - The European Union on Monday imposed strict limits on contacts
with Burmese officials and their families in response to what the 15-nation
bloc sees as Burma's continuing failure to respect human rights.

LUXEMBOURG - The European Union moved on Monday to bolster its role in the
Middle East peace process, appointing a special envoy to the region and
pointedly joining with Egypt in calling for Israel to withdraw from Hebron.

LUXEMBOURG - Egyptian Foreign Minister Amre Moussa called on Monday for the
European Union to pressure Israel to persuade it that its policies are

funding of a new EU veterinary inspection agency in Ireland, officials said.

LUXEMBOURG - European Union farm ministers wrestled on Monday with proposals
to help farmers and beef markets hit by new evidence that humans can develop a
form of mad cow disease.

LUXEMBOURG - Britain must carry out an extra cull of cattle at risk to mad cow
disease if the European Union is to examine exempting some British herds from
a global export ban, Irish Farm Minister Ivan Yates said on Monday.

BRUSSELS - Europe's toy manufacturers on Monday demanded stronger European
Commission proposals to prevent what they allege are trade barriers to toy
advertisements in the guise of advertising regulations.

progress report on cohesion in the European Union, EU sources said on Monday.

differences on the backburner and signed a lucrative five-year agreement to
boost political and economic links.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission confirmed on Monday it had cleared plans by
a Dutch unit of Norwegian oil and gas giant Norsk Hydro to buy EniChem's
fertiliser unit Terni Industrie Chimiche SpA.

HELSINKI - Finnish wholesaler and retailer Kesko Oy said in a statement on
Monday it had proposed to the European Commission selling its TukoSpar Oy unit
in 1997 to gain approval of its merger with Tuko.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission, fresh from allowing another huge state
bailout for France's Credit Lyonnais, is under increased pressure to clamp
