[01] Santer/Dini relations with ex-Yugo
BELGRADE - European Commission President Jacques Santer and Italian Foreign
Minister Lamberto Dini, chairman of the EU Council of Ministers, touring the
former Yugoslav republics, stressed the need to normalise relations.
[02] 72 million Ecus to Bosnia
SARAJEVO - The European Union on Friday donated a total of 72 million Ecus to
Bosnia, devastated by 43 months of war, and pressed for fair and free
elections to reintegrate the country.
[03] Santer warns Britain
LONDON - European Commission President Jacques Santer has warned Britain the
rest of Europe is turning against it because of its policy of refusing to
cooperate with its partners in protest at the export ban on British beef.

BRUSSELS - The European Union's scientific committee on food criticised the
European Commission for not informing it of the reasons for easing a ban on
British beef exports, a Commission spokesman said on Saturday.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission has drawn up a consumer guide on mad cow
disease in which it pledges to keep the public fully informed about research.

BRUSSELS - The European Trade Union Confederation urged the European Union on
Sunday to aid an estimated 50,000 workers who had lost their jobs or whose
livelihood was threatened by the mad cow crisis.

BRUSSELS - European Union scientific experts looking into the British baby
milk scare agreed on Friday that there is no risk.

PARIS - France is near to an agreement with Germany on how to open up the
European Union electricity market, Industry Minister Franck Borotra said in an
interview with financial daily Les Echos on Friday.

ROME - The Italian cabinet on Friday approved two draft laws designed to make
Italy a full member of the European Union's Schengen accord, the prime
minister's office said.

ROME - Economic Affairs Commissioner Yves-Thibault de Silguy on Friday ruled
out a possible delay in moves towards European Economic and Monetary Union.

BRUSSELS - The European Commisssion, fearing that the fast-growing mobile
phone market is bypassing competition rules, has warned the industry about
keeping too tight a grip on users .

BRUSSELS - The European Commission has cleared a proposal by Eridania Beghin-
Say and the Bunge Group to merge their oilseeds business in Spain, the head of
Beghin-Say's office in Brussels, Massimo Vitale, said on Friday.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission has put off at least until June 18 the
adoption of its Auto/Oil package of two directives and a communication,
officials said on Friday.
