    [01] ANOTHER CRITICISM AGAINST ITALY

KIBRIS (2/12/98) reports that the so-called TRNC Parliamentary Union (as published in the paper) has criticized with disgust the Italian stance against Turkey, and branded this stance ``hostile''.

The chairman of the ``Union'' Hakki Yusuf in his statement said that by backing the terrorists, Italy is in the same shoe with the terrorists, and Italy should be held responsible for the death of the martyrs.

Pointing out that Turkey, as a single voice, when the time comes, has the power and the will to teach the appropriate lesson to these ``double faces'', Hakki Yusuf called on the Italian parliamentarians to criticize the stance of the Italian government ``which is contrary to the friendship existing between two countries''.

[02] VIRTUE PARTY’S SUPPORT REGARDING CYPRUS PROBLEM REITERATED

KIBRIS (2/12/98) reports that the so-called chairman of the pseudostate’s ``Assembly'', Hakki Atun, had a meeting yesterday with Turkey’s fundamentalist Virtue Party deputy chairman responsible for local administration, Ismail Alptekin.

Speaking during the meeting Alptekin said that for Turkey the Cyprus problem is above party consideration, it is a national cause. With this in mind, he added, the Virtue Party has always extended support to the Turkish governments on the Cyprus problem.

Alptekin was in the occupied area for the seminar organised by the Association of Local Administrations of the Republic of Turkey.

[03] CEM: UNACCEPTABLE TO DEPLOY MISSILES ON CRETE

KIBRIS (2/12/98) reports that Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem has declared that it is unacceptable to deploy the S-300 missiles in Crete instead of Cyprus.

Cem said: ``Our stance is clear. We cannot accept the deployment of the missiles in our geographic area and the Aegean region. This is their problem. If they make a mistake, there will be serious consequences''.

Greek Foreign Minister Theodoros Pangalos, during his meeting on Monday in Paris with his French counterpart Hubert Vedrine, said that deploying the S- 300 missiles on Crete is a possibility.

[04] ``PALESTINE DAY'' IN THE OCCUPIED AREA

KIBRIS (2/12/98) reports that Palestine’s ambassador to Turkey, Fouad Yaseen, on the occasion of the ``Palestine Day'' organised at the so-called Near East University in the occupied area, gave a conference on ``The Middle East at a Turning Point''.

During the conference, Mr Yaseen informed the audience about the Middle East problem, without going into details. Yaseen said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was taking a negative stance and was not keeping his promises.

Yaseen added that after 32 years they are establishing their state. (MY)
