[01] Gurel denies plan on Cyprus; supports Holbrooke efforts

"If there is a desire for the Turkish Cypriot community and the representatives of the Turkish Cypriot people to engage in negotiations with the EU, the equality of the sovereignty of the TRNC must be recognized and accepted."

Gurel also commented on Turkey's expectations regarding the conference to be held next month on the EU expansion process. He said.

"On 13 December, we expect the EU to list Turkey among the candidate countries. In other words, Turkey wants to participate in the EU expansion process slated to begin next year as a candidate for full membership."

[02] Foreign Ministry official holds political talks in Moscow

Foreign Ministry Under Secretary Inal Batu said that the meetings with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Avdayev, were very positive and the issues of Cyprus, S-300 missiles, Turkish-Greek problems, straits and naval problems, European security were all taken up.

Turkish delegation conveyed to the Russian side that the regulation on straits which entered into force on July 1, 1995 will be changed.

Turkey conducts work on technical and legal arrangements in order to ease the concerns of countries having coasts to the Black Sea.

Foreign Ministry Deputy Under Secretary Batu pointed out that the Russian side explained to the Turkish side that they have a balanced attitude regarding Turkish-Greek relations.

The two sides once again seemed to have different views regarding the Cyprus issue.

Batu told Russia that Turkish public opinion is very sensitive regarding the Cyprus issue and S-300 missiles.

Meanwhile, diplomatic sources say that Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeniy Primakov is expected to visit Turkey by the beginning of next year.

[03] Denktash meets Cordovez

KIBRIS reports that, the UN Secretary General's special advisor has conveyed to the two leaders, a verbal message of the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.

Quoting reliable sources KIBRIS, says that Kofi Annan has urged the sides to continue the dialogue, and take concrete steps on certain issues.

[04] Denktash is to leave for Ankara for angiography

Yesterday if everything goes normal Denktash will be able to return to the occupied area on Saturday.

[05] Serdar meets Hannays

The meeting tool place at the Travellar's Club in Pall Mall, present at the meeting was Simon Smith Deputy head of the East European Desk of the British Foreign Office.

During the meeting which lasted two hours, Turkish sides, position regarding the Cyprus problem has been discussed.
